Master Bedroom Makeover - Final Reveal...

Week 6.

We. Are. Done.  It has been wild and I have to say, we LOVE our bedroom!  I've been doing my traditional Cabbage Patch dance! :-)  I wasn't sure we could pull it off in time, but we did.  We worked right down to the wire!!  Warning, there are a lot of photos.  AND It has been so rainy and overcast here that I had to use a flash...yuck!

Here's where we ended....

...here's where we started.

While it isn't a lot of change, the room looks and feels so different to us.

I had a plan...

...and we ended up accomplishing just about all of the things I wanted to do.

The biggest change was adding the board/batten treatment and painting the upper part of the wall Peppercorn.

The other cosmetic changes included adding a larger rug...

...and adding artwork to the walls.

I hung some baskets to tie in the basket in our master bath and the basket on the bed.

The baskets gave some much needed texture because we had so many "slick" surfaces in the room.  We added the chandelier...

...not the one I picked, but one I love just as much.

Guys let me tell you, my husband is my hero!  He worked so hard to get these boards into place and to make sure things were done properly.

We had warped boards, warped walls and some really crooked baseboards.  He had to notch for wall plate covers...and that is no easy feat!

He made sure all of my pictures were hung evenly on the wall, cuz I was trippin'.  My OCD was working overtime!

I chose the gold frames to add some color to the monotone palette.

I decided that I didn't want new bedding because I love what we have.  If I run across something that just sends me over the moon, I will change it out.

I never did find a bench that I really liked, but when I do, it will sit at the foot of the bed.  The mirrors made it way too crowded-looking around our night tables, so they were returned.

The best part was that we stayed within our budget!

The wood was our largest expense.

I still can't get over how different the room looks by making these few changes.  Our bedroom went from "drab to FAB"...and no one died or divorced during this process! :-)

If you are interested, here's where I picked up a few things:

Overstock.com - Area rug
IKEA - Picture frames over bed
Creative Market - Artwork
Hobby Lobby - Picture frames on long wall and baskets
Home Depot - Board and batten wood
Lowes - Valspar paint - Sherwin Williams Peppercorn and Fundamental White

Thank you to Linda, who pulls the One Room Challenge together twice a year...

...and to her media partner Better Homes and Gardens!

  6. Benita, your room is beautiful! The woodwork and peppercorn were such perfect choices. No need to change the bedding because it's so pretty already. I love the artwork you chose too. Gorgeous! The One Room Challenge is the best way to prod yourself along.

    1. Thank you so much Stacey! I was worried about the Peppercorn at first, but once I got it on the walls, I was happy with it. It really popped with the white! I have to go back and repaint door frames, baseboards and window trim (those weren't in the plan) but I'm taking a break first. Thank you on the artwork. I downloaded it from Creative Market and uploaded it to Office Depot..the hardest part was deciding which prints to use and how to hang those frames. YES, it most definitely is! You have no choice! :-) Thank you again so much! Love and hugs!

  7. Mah-ve-lous dah-ling! Seriously, I really love your new space. And Kudos to the hubby for all his attention to detail. It is amazing how simple something might look to the naked eye (so to speak), but it is the behind the scenes detailing that is the real challenge. Your room looks like it could be in a magazine and the colors you chose really make the room pop. I need to paint something peppercorn...not only because it is a great color but I like the name too. LOL I love the sitting area and the baskets are a great choice. I wouldn't change the bedding either...goes veery well with the colors in the room. The Rug is an excellent choice and pulls it all together. Love it sweet friend. It was all worth every bit of effort, now lie down and enjoy!!!

    1. Thank you so very much for your sweet words! This room has taken us every single bit of the 3 weeks we had to work on it. While it doesn’t look like too many things changed, that board and batten was the biggie and it made the most impact. I love the sound of the word Peppercorn also…LOL The hubster is pretty darn amazing. He made all the pieces of this wall puzzle work perfectly together! And yes, the rug ties the room together man (The Big Lebowski 😉) Thank you again so very much! Love and hugs sweet friend!

    1. Hello sweet friend!! Hope you are doing well! Thank you so much, we are enjoying the new look. I found that idea on Pinterest and wanted to do it over the bed all along, but just never put forth the effort in the plain version of our bedroom. Since we dressed up the room, I figured it was time to get the pics over the bed. I'm so happy Edward has the patience for these things, because I do not...LOL Love and hugs to you and hope you have a wonderful Mother's Day!

Love the peppercorn, the dark tone makes everything pop, and the gold frames and the way you hung them, swoon! Your seating area is so inviting and I love the baskets on the wall and your chandy! 1. Jenna, thank you so very much! We love the board/batten also. It made such a huge difference in how the room looked. The Peppercorn color does make the white pop and gives it that crisp-clean look I wanted. I found the picture hanging idea on Pinterest and had been wanting to get something over the bed. Since everything was getting a makeover, it was time to get them up on the wall. Thank you again for your sweet, encouraging words! Hugs! Happy Mother's Day!

  18. It’s stunning! I love the layered artwork. That was truly a game changer in my book. And of course, the wall treatment just took everything over the top. I don’t know if you showed the mirrors over the nightstands but I can see how they might not have looked great with the wood being higher up the wall.

The bedding is lovely, but if it’s just not resonating with you you might consider changing two of the pillows, either the middle ones or the ones in front, to patterned, darker ones, or maybe a patterned throw. I know how hard it is to find a pattern you like. I always end up with mostly solids for that reason lol.

I remember doing a wood wall treatment in the cabin and every time we got to an outlet it was touch and go! Good job on yours. It looks so professional and polished!

    1. Thank you so very much! I found the idea on Pinterest, which seems to be my “go to” for all sorts of ideas for decorating and crafts. We didn’t bother to hang them. We help them up and they were just too much, so we returned them. If I run across something small that might work, then I will give them another go, but for right now, I’m content without them. I didn’t want it to look overcrowded at our night tables.

Bedding always seems to be a struggle for me in any room. I do love this bedding…the pattern is very faint, but I still feel that it needs that little “sumthin’, sumthin’”…LOL I may give that a try with some darker pillows. The Euros look pale purple, but they are actually gray. Maybe a darker pillow would pull the gray out of them a little more.

Thank you again so very much! Yes, the notching around switches and outlets was pretty precarious…so glad the hubster had patience with it. There is no telling what it would have looked like with just me handling it….LOL Love and hugs sweet friend and Happy Mother’s Day!

  19. It's beautiful...so peaceful and serene! As I think I've mentioned before, I am a person who loves color so I doubt I could ever go with neutrals, but you sure make this room look inviting. My 13-yr-old granddaughter just redesigned her bedroom (all by herself) and chose light grey for the walls with yellow bedding. I wasn't too excited at first but it has turned out really pretty.
