...for the Red, White and Blue and a new Pinterest Challenge!
I hope your week is off to a great start and that you had a relaxing Monday with family and friends. Memorial Day is such an emotional day for so many of us...remembering friends and family members who gave their lives to keep us free!
Welcome if you are joining me from Let's Add Sprinkles and welcome back if you are a regular reader of my blog. Each month, Cindy @ Country Road 407 hosts a Pinterest Challenge for a few bloggers. She finds an inspiration photo and we recreate the design to fit our own personal style. This month's inspiration is for 4th of July decor and came from Home Is Where the Boat Is.
Don't you just love her patriotic porch decor?
Fall and winter are my favorite times of the year for decorating (indoors and out), so I normally do not decorate outside for the spring or summer holidays, especially the 4th of July. We are normally out-of-town and aren't at home to enjoy it. This year, we will be home AND have a guest!
Since we will be having company around the 4th this year, I decided I better pull a few things together not only for this challenge but for some summer holiday cheer for our guest!
We recently purchased new chairs for our front porch. The ones we previously had were just too uncomfortable. I let these chairs sit for a couple of months with no cushions. When I found out I would be able to participate in this challenge, I figured I should start with cushions.
I found these pretty striped ones at HomeGoods. They are indoor/outdoor and will clean easily. The pattern is bold for me, but they look pretty from the street.
I pulled my blue jean pocket flatware holder off my dining table. It is casual and perfect for outdoors.
I found the plastic plates and tumbler at Wally World...again, perfect for outdoor dining. The cute flag pillow accents the blue/white striped cushions, while my hat adds a little bit of texture.
I am the absolute worst at keeping real flowers and plants alive....
...so when I ran across this sweet little faux bouquet, on sale, I snatched it up. Some color contrast was needed with all of the blue and red.
I love the color on the front of my house. Now just to let some of that trickle inside!
Art and Sand is next on the tour, so please be sure to hop on over to see how she and my other friends decorated for the summer holidays! I know you will find some fabulous inspiration!

Love the porch. I could sit out there all day. I love the jean pocket ! Adorable!
ReplyDeleteI had to work on Memorial day but was able to skip out early. We road around town looking for anything going on, but nothing. We ended up putting some hot dogs on the grill and enjoyed the patio for a while. I only added a few flags and flowers to decorate my front yard.
I will do more for the 4th of July and you gave me some cute ideas here.
Lisa
Thank you so much! I do hate you had to work on the holiday. Bummer, but glad you were able to get out early! We grilled on Saturday and cleaned out the garage on Monday...such wild people that we are! Thank you again! Hugs!
DeleteYour met the challenge wonderfully!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Penny! Summer decorating is difficult for me…normally, I don’t do anything. The challenge made me get busy…LOL Hugs!
DeleteI love it. The blue and white is gorgeous. I bet it looks fabulous from the street.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Katie! Hugs!
DeleteYour porch is beautiful - love both the chairs and the fun striped cushions.
ReplyDeleteI have been embracing faux blooms more these days. We are headed on vacation in a week and I have been creating faux arrangements for each room. I want flowers around the house for the dog sitter.
Have a lovely week.
Thank you so much Carol! Some of the faux flowers look just as pretty a the real ones and I like the fact I don’t have to do anything but put them out. Makes my life much easier! 😊 Happy weekend! Hugs!
DeleteI too love your porch!! What a lovely Patriotic vignette!! The basket arrangement is delightful!! Thanks so much for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Debbie
Thank you so much Debbie! The colors really do pop up against our neutral-toned house! Have a great weekend! Hugs!
DeleteI love your recreation from the inspiration photo. Very festive and pretty and comfy. Love that sweet basket.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
Kris
Thank you so much Kris! Decorating for the summer like this is definitely not me, since I prefer more neutral tones. I’m glad I get pushed out of my comfort zone sometimes. Although, it does tax my imagination…LOL Love and hugs and happy weekend!
DeleteBenita, Your space is so lovely. I love everything you did. The flower arrangement in the basket is so pretty. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Terrie! I love the faux flowers because I can just “set it and forget it”…LOL I don’t have to remember to water them and they won’t die. Of course, by the end of the summer, their color will be gone due to the sun, but I will enjoy them for now! Have a great weekend! Hugs!
DeleteOh my goodness I love the porch! I have STILL not gotten around to decorating my front porch! GRR....I needed this inspiration I guess! Love the red, white and blue!!! I wish I could sit with you a spell and have a glass of cold tea. Or diet coke, or lemonade and you know what dear lady? Good old fashion water sounds good to me. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Cindy! I normally do not decorate at all until fall. I wish that you could also, that would be so much fun!! The new cushions are definitely comfy and right now, we get a pretty good bit of shade on the porch. When summer hits, it will be miserable, but for now, it's nice. Love and hugs sweet friend!
DeleteWhat a truly charming creation! I love that wicker chair.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! We found the chairs at IKEA. Love that store! Hugs!
DeleteI love your chair. I'm sure it looks equally good with or without a cushion. Think we both had denim pockets on the mind for this one;) I love to use them for utensils, too!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I love the denim for summer, it is so versatile! I used it to decorate my summer table and will be using it for my 4th of July table! Those little pockets were so inexpensive but I'm getting so much out of them! Hugs!
DeleteBeautiful, I love decorating with red, white and blue.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Carla. It is not my normal color palette, but I'm liking it so far! Love and hugs!
DeleteBeautiful! It looks so cozy and inviting! So excited to join you for this challenge!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Leslea! Glad to be joining you as well! Have a great weekend! Hugs!
DeleteI'd like to be a guest and sit there! It's all so stinkin' cute! And dang, I need to get to Wally World. Love those checked plates. Thank you so much for joining in. Love how your PC challenge turned out.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Cindy! You are welcome to come on down anytime! Walmart has really got some cute things for summer...I've been impressed with all the great things they have! Thank you for having me, I loved this challenged. Forced me out of my comfort zone! :-) Hugs!!
DeleteI'm with you, Benita... RWB is a lot of color for me, but it was really fun doing this challenge! LOVE those cushions... actually quite coastal looking. ;-) Pinned!
ReplyDeleteJulie, thank you so much! I like a coastal look and if/when I ever live close to the beach, there will be all sorts of blue and white…LOL Have a great weekend! Hugs!
DeleteThat looks very festive and very comfortable, Benita! Lovely!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Kim! Hope you have a great weekend! Love and hugs!
DeleteThis is so great, Benita! I always love your style. The bold colors mixed with the multi-colored bouquet really works! My back patio set is very similar to your chair in style and color. I'm now dreaming of putting some blue and white striped cushions on it. (Our light color didn't hold up well after a few Houston hurricane seasons.) Can I just say that the jean utensil pocket is the cutest thing ever?!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I appreciate it! When I ran across those cushions, I knew they would be perfect. I'm hoping they will hold up color-wise also. The Texas sun is brutal on outdoor color...I've had cushions that have faded within a couple of months. Very frustrating! I found the jean utensil pocket idea on Home and Family last year and just fell in love with them. Inexpensive and versatile for summer! Have a great weekend! Hugs!
DeleteBenita, what a fun red, white and blue porch! I'm so inspired by YOUR porch as well as Mary's. That hat is adorable! Lots of great detail and we know it's all about the detail!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Yvonne! And yes, it is definitely all about the small details. I originally left off the hat and decided it was needed and but it back! :-) Have a great weekend! Hugs!
DeleteOooh, Benita! I love those chairs and patio decor!!! I've looked at some similar chairs (if not the same) for a couple of years ~ I love the soft grey wash on them. I'm glad you'll be home to enjoy your patio and it sure pops with bright pillows and chair cushions. Really pretty!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy summer to you,
Barb :)
Thank you so much Barb! We found those chairs at IKEA. They are sturdy and seem to be well-made. We will see how they endure their first Texas summer. :-) thank you again! Have a great weekend! Hugs!
DeleteThis looks so fabulous Benita! You have captured the warmth and spirit of Mary's porch perfectly! LOVE the wide stripe cushions and the touch of yellow in the flowers, your porch is singing with patriotism!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Thank you so much! I love the wide-stripes as well…normally not a “stripe” person, but these cushions looked so bold and pretty. I’m glad they had the matching pillows because that color blue is hard to match sometimes! Thank you again! Have a great weekend! Hugs!
DeleteHow wonderful that you did some decorating! This is so welcoming! I decorate to the nines for the 4th of July, I feel like my house is just made for red, white and blue. The funny thing is, this year we are going to be in Italy over the 4th! I have decorated anyway...alas, the life of a blogger!
ReplyDeleteChloe, thank you so much! I normally do nothing for this holiday...LOL Thanks to you and Cindy it has forced me to do some decorating and I really do love it! What a fun trip that will be! At least you will have festive decor to come home to! Love and hugs sweet friend!
DeleteThank you so much! Have a great weekend! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThree Cheers for your post! I love decorating with red, white, and blue for the summer months. I've just pulled out my patriotic things. Uncle Sam, Lady Liberty, and lots of flags. Thanks for sharing and happy summer!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I wasn't into it at first, but now that I've used some of these colors, I'm looking for more decorations with a patriotic theme! :-) Thank you for visiting! Hugs!
DeleteBenita, what a pretty front porch setting for the 4th of July inspiration. Love the bright blue and white stripe cushions on your new chairs. Looks like a great spot to relax and watch the world go by. The denim pocket is so cute. Love the plates too. I know your guest will enjoy visiting in such a patriotic setting.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Carol! I normally don't do a whole lot for the summer but now I'm inspired and in the mood, so I will be pulling out more of the patriotic colors to incorporate in the house. I've got a cute banner I need to put up but have to repaint the railings first...it's always something...LOL Have a great one! Hugs!
