Am I the only one who has a problem finding anything in the nightmare space known as the "spice cabinet"?!?!
I hate opening up the doors to this cabinet when I'm cooking trying to find something to flavor our food, only to discover I am completely out of what I need. I finally couldn't stand it anymore and decided to perform an exorcism on the dreaded spice cabinet.
Due to the fact that I was a mad woman on a tear when I decided something had to change with this cabinet, there are no "before" photos. I only have one photo of the small pile that made up one corner of a shelf sitting on the counter. I mean, honestly, who can find anything in that chaos?
When I made up my mind to organize this space, I ordered supplies from Amazon. The lower shelf is comprised of spices using these bottles. I liked the shape and the fact that they included a shaker top.
The 2nd shelf contains seasonings which are stored in these bottles.
Deciding on and ordering these two sets of bottles was the easy part. The decision that took me the longest was what type of labels I wanted to use. I finally decided on these...
...and picked them up at Office Depot.
I needed to wash/dry the containers before placing my spices inside, so this turned into a 2-day project. I did not care! The two days of counter-top clutter was worth it! I used the funnel that was included with the first set of bottles to make the transfers but found for some of the seasonings I had to use a funnel with a larger opening. The transferring of seasonings and spices didn't take a lot of time at all and was well worth the hours of sneezing and coughing (spice and seasoning fumes).
Now, I love opening up the cabinet doors and seeing my newly organized spices and seasonings! The labels are easy to read and I can see to re-stock when I'm running low on a spice or seasoning. "Google mini-speaker order thingie, I need Cumin".
While the containers were a bit pricey, who can honestly put a dollar figure on peace of mind??!!
Ahhhhh, heaven!

You did a great job! I will get up in my spice cabinet often to straighten and categorize them. I do not have that many though. Well, I have a lot but probably need to throw out some old ones. I do not do as much cooking as I used too except around the holidays. My most used spices are Italian seasoning, and Cinnamon. Ha. Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Thank you so much Lisa! I had tried to many times to reorganize and straighten them out, but it would always end up a jumbled mess after a few times back in there. I threw out the old stuff, bought the ones I was out of and now, I'm am totally happy with this cabinet. Is it okay to enjoy opening the doors and seeing something organized?! I mean to the point I don't want to use anything for fear of messing it up? LOL Hope you have a great weekend! Hugs!
DeleteAwesome job girl. Oh I need to organize my spice cabinet. I love using spices and I am always trying out a new one so now my cupboard runneth over! Hugs and blessing, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Cindy! I had to do something because it was driving me crazy! We love mixing all types of spices and seasonings for different flavors so I needed a system that was going to work for me! Hopefully, this one will be long-term! Love and hugs!
DeleteNow that would put a smile on my face, looking at those spices!
ReplyDeletePenny, it definitely puts a smile on my face...every time I open that cabinet! Hugs!
DeleteGreat job Benita, I am a huge admirer of organized people!! I try...you are an inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteJenna
Thank you so much Jenna! Sometimes, I'm a bit over the top, but it's just how my brain works...LOL Hugs!
DeleteLooks great Benita....I hear ya on the chaos. About 5 years ago, after trying almost every method of storing spices, I bought a spice rack that was perfect.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.amazon.com/YouCopia-SpiceStack-30-Bottle-Organizer-Universal/...check it out. I bought one in white and loved it so much I bought 3 others and stacked them on the bottom of my shelf. I labeled them and now I do not have to search (they are alphabetical).
I love the way you used the same bottles in your arrangement, ...mine is the lazy approach and has all sizes of bottles. LOL But I now have them memorized and just pull down the little shelf and out pops the spice.
Great job my friend. Hugs
Thank you so much Kari! I love those and used to have several of them. After moving so many times, I had to get rid of them because they would fit in some of my cabinets, but not the others. It worked for me when I had it and was great! My brain seems to work better when they are uniform in size and shape…don’t know why. Thank you again! Love and hugs!
DeleteIt looks awesome girlfriend. Love your spice collection. Woo Hoo that is great! Happy New Week.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
Thank you so much Kris! It has made my life so much easier and I no longer dread opening that cabinet to find one big mess! LOL Love and hugs!
DeleteI love how you organized your spices. I love the containers you used. I love a well organized cabinet myself.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Terrie! My life and brain works better when I have organizing and things are streamlined. Guess that's why I've struggled so much with making that basket...it requires creative skills I'm not equipped with...LOL Hugs!
DeleteYou are too funny. And darn it, now I'm going to have to do something with mine. They've been on a lazy Susan thing ( who figured that name out?) forever and I hate that the spices don't fit right. You did a beautiful job. Now I'm off to clean out my pantry - which was on my list for over a month ( okay maybe three) now. Thanks for sharing. It's beautful!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I really am pleased with it and am happy when I open the cabinet doors. I don't understand the name of "lasy Susan" either...LOL I redid my pantry at the same time...it was a major overhaul, but it looks so much better also! Hugs!!
DeleteThat looks SOOOOO good- My cabinet is a mish-mash, too, but I don't want to redo it until I know where we are going to end up-after we decide what we are going to do. xoDiana
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I like it much better also, it no longer makes me crazy when I open the cabinet! :-) Love and hugs! Have a great weekend!
DeleteGreat idea! I have mine on the wall by the kitchen cabinets.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
Thanks so much Brenda! We really don’t have any wall space in the kitchen area, it is all in the dining area. The cabinet is really the only place I have for them and I needed a better system. This one is working well so far! Love and hugs!
DeleteOh my goodness! I get a little bit of anxiety just opening up my spice cabinet. YOU have given me some inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI did also...that's why I knew I had to do something...I mean, a spice cabinet should never intimidate me! LOL Thanks so much! Hugs!
DeleteYou've inspired me! I'm giving away all my spices when I move and will only buy something if I need it and will put it in some pretty glass containers. Easily said right?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! YES, so easily said…LOL I found lots of things I should have thrown out long before now, but with all the disorganization, I never saw them. With this deal, I can keep everything up-to-date! Love and hugs!
DeleteYou are the queen of organization! Aren't they pretty! My spice cabinet looks exactly like your pile on the counter...and even better, there are so many of them in the cabinet, they fall on me when i open it. I think I need a spice intervention!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! LOL…I definitely needed a spice intervention. The last straw, or toothpick, was when they all fell out on the counter and all on the floor. I was a mad woman after that. LOL I not only did the spice cabinet, I did the entire pantry…Edward thought I was having a good old fashioned southern “hissy” fit…LOL Love and hugs!
DeleteCan you come do my cabinet please!! Pretty pretty please, with a cherry on top.
ReplyDelete:-)
LOVE THIS IDEA!!
Thank you so much! I would happily come up and organize yours for you! We can trade...organized cabinet for less humidity! :) Love and hugs sweet friend!!
DeleteTruly, makes my life so much easier! Thanks so much! Hugs!
