Incense and Peppermints....

.....Occasions, persuasions clutter your mind....Incense and peppermints, the color of time....

Before I get into my post, I would like for you to notice a few things about this video.  1)  They are not really playing their instruments.  B) The guitar player sitting down looks a bit like Mick Jagger.  C) The keyboard player looks similar to Freddie Mercury.  4) That dark-haired dude with the glasses looks amazingly like the dorky guy on Spin City -- Richard Kind....and F) Some of these guys are barefoot...I suppose some sort of 60s protest/hippie/free love stuff.  Just a few side notes.  :-)  Another one of my bizarre two-fers..well, really a three-fer.  You are getting a video, some pointed information AND a recipe!

We have been on an almost 2 week jaunt to the New England area.  This trip was for a business meeting, but we decided to include some personal sightseeing while we were in the area.  After all, we just can't run up to Maine any ol' time we feel like it!  It's a bit of a drive from Nashville, TN.  :-)

Needless to say, we are exhausted.  Our trip took us to Newport, RI, Salem, MA, Boothbay Harbor, ME and Gettysburg, PA.  Those were the business meeting and sightseeing stops.  There were overnight stays in Virginia and Vermont as well.  This post is not about the trip.  I will write more on that later.  This post is about coming home.

We arrived home at 2:00 a.m. on Thursday.  Gettysburg, PA had been our last stop and we didn't leave there until around 1:00 p.m.  It was a very, very long drive.  But we were anxious to get home.  You know how it is after a long trip.  You are ready to be refreshed and relaxed and in your own bed.

Since my skin was feeling a bit icky after being in so many different hotels with so many different water softeners, I wanted and needed an invigorating exfoliation.  I fired up the computer and went straight to Pinterest.  Yes, I know it was amazing that I had any brain cells left to do so, but determination spurred me on.

Since I needed a boost, I wanted something with a little pep.  Cha-Ching!  Found one!

I whipped this scrub together (AND took photos...you should be impressed)!!  :-)  I then treated myself to little bit of wonderful!  It was easy to make, smells fabulous and looks good enough to eat!

PEPPERMINT SUGAR SCRUB

1 cup of sugar
1/4 cup of coconut oil
4-6 drops of peppermint essential oil
4 drops of red food coloring

Melt coconut oil in microwave safe dish for 30 seconds or until liquid.  Mix in essential oil.  Combine with sugar in a mixing bowl, until sugar is completely mixed with oils.  Divide scrub in half.  Mix one half with red food coloring and stir well.  Fill jar with red mixture and white mixture as you desire.  Store in airtight container.

I hope you enjoy this invigorating body scrub.  I know I did and I think you will also!  Guess you noticed there was no incense involved....I just like the song and wanted to share it with you! LOL

  3. Thank you for the recipe...I often make these type things for little gifts!!
I'm glad you enjoyed your trip and I am waiting to hear more about it. This "Connecticut Yankee" stuck in Texas, is always glad to hear about New England!!

    1. You are quite welcome and I like to make things like this as gifts also. Homemade and handmade gifts usually last the recipient a little while. I’ve always considered myself an honorary northerner because the weather up north is a lot more appealing to me. That was a huge transition from Connecticut to Texas! :-) Have a wonderful weekend! Hugs!!

  4. I am so envious of all the places you visited!! I actually envision, think about and plan for when I get home from a trip BEFORE we even go! I am just a homebody. Your scrub sounds luscious and I will try not to eat it. My feet need a good scrub with it!

    1. I have wanted to go to the New England area for as long as I can remember and was thrilled when this meeting provided the opportunity. I am normally a homebody, but lately the hubby's business meetings pull us out of the house. Newport, RI and Boothbay Harbor, ME were my favorites and I could have stayed forever! I even scoped out houses in the area and tried to convince the hubster we really need an office up there...LOL. You are too funny....I was so tempted to take a bite but knew it would be so very sweet. I think you will enjoy it as a foot scrub because the peppermint is so invigorating. And you can add more drops of the peppermint oil. I took liberties and added a few extra. :-)

  6. SO much to say!!! Ok, video first...um...very strange. It's like a bad comedy skit and why is no one playing their instrument? I'm a little creeped out. Next, that was a loooong drive for one day. I would've been a pretzel and totally exhausted, because no one sleeps well in the car. Which brings me to number three...you made it AND took pictures. Really, really good pictures (which I know, is not a stretch for you, but still!!) I am so impressed. You are my DIY blog hero.

    1. The video was bizarre...it was the 60's version of lip-syncing and pretending to play instruments. If you look closely, there are no plugs and such to the guitars or drums. They are just "going through the motions"...you can't hear the music play if there are no amps or speakers. Maybe this was from the Ed Sullivan show or something...LOL

I believe we were suffering from "so tired you're wired". We came home, unpacked our suitcases, sorted dirty laundry, and I made this scrub. The scrub literally took less than 5 minutes and I really wanted to get a bath in my own shower before crawling into bed. The photos were edited...alot. Much more than I like to edit. I was bleary-eyed by the time I shot these few pics. We have been paying for the tiredness though...dragging around for the past few days.

  7. I've got to tell my daughters-in-law about this!

That's a lot of driving time but a fabulous opportunity. I wish I'd seen more of this country when I was younger.

    1. Dewena, she will love it. Easy to make and makes you feel wonderful! I wish I had been able to see more when I was younger also. I enjoy it, but it is a lot of time in the car and my body stiffens up so much lately, it just kills me every time we stop!

  8. You owe me 3 minutes of my life back for watching that and bleach for my ears and eyes :p

The foot scrub sounds great! I'm like Kim... you're now my blogging hero ;)

    Glad you're home!

    1. LOL....what? You don't like psychedelic music??!! :-) I'm so sorry! I will see what I can do to make it up to you...hmmm, how about I put on some Glenn Miller? Andrew Sisters? Tommy Dorsey Band? Mel Torme? Frank Sinatra? All greats!!!

Thank you so much! We are glad to be home, had a great time, but will be leaving again soon. :-( If this scrub had not been easy, it would have waited until I could see straight! :-) Hugs!!!

  9. First of all I am quite hurt by the comments about the video. As I can faintly remember through the haze of peppermints and incense and maybe something more, this was a favorite song of mine filled with the meaning of life. No, we did not wear shoes and yes, we thought we were very fashion forward! Second, you must be one energetic woman to come home from a grueling drive and make some sugar scrub. I love the stuff but have never tried to make it. Thanks for the fond sixties memories and the recipe.

    1. Awww, Donna, I’m so sorry. I would never hurt your feelings. The song is good…the video, not so much…LOL. I was a very small child in the 60’s, so I don’t remember much, but did like the music from the movie Good Morning Vietnam, which used a lot of what I call “psychedelic music”, which is how I classify this song. I liked songs like Pleasant Valley Sunday, My Green Tambourine, 5 O’Clock World, Sunshine Superman, Turn, Turn, Turn, etc.

I told Kim it was probably the “so tired you’re wired” bit for us. We were quite active for just coming off of a road trip at 2:00 in the morning…LOL. It’s a pretty simple recipe and I think you would like this one. And you are so welcome! :-)
