Adding Elegance...

...to your home is not a difficult or expensive task.  Even if your design style is rustic farmhouse, you can have small touches of elegance here and there.

Elegance can be added to any room...even a plain, boring bathroom.

I think I've shared this many times before, but I will go ahead and say it again..I LOVE silver!  And I've been collecting it over the years with the odd piece here and there.  I hope to one day have a full set of silver utensils, but until then, I use and enjoy the odd pieces I have.

One of the items I've been collecting is silver champagne stemware.

An odd thing to collect I know, because I don't think anyone really wants to drink out of them.  But I don't use them for drinking, I use them for decorating...in my bathrooms. On the back of each commode, along with a few vintage books, I have a silver champagne goblet....filled with these little trinkets.

I love the sparkle and shine.  I think they add that "touch of mink" as it were, to each room.  A simple dainty way to make a plain space elegant.

No, I don't polish these goblets regularly.  I like the patina they acquire by sitting out.  During Christmas, I place fake snow and a colored glass ornament into each one.  During November, I use little white pumpkins.  They are unique and beautiful.  I also have 2 of them sitting on the fireplace mantle in my bedroom.

A little elegance at the end of my bare books.  It doesn't take much, just a tiny thing, to make an ordinary area extraordinary!

Silver pieces can be found just about anywhere...thrift stores, flea markets, antique stores....and, if it is in bad shape, you can get it for a very low price.

I have dug pieces out of junk bins at flea markets, brought them home, bathed them in silver cleaner and ended up with a very nice serving piece.  I've also found some nicer pieces that I've been able to get a better price on just by asking.

If you buy several things, you usually get a much better deal.

So the next time you walk by and see that box of tarnished and black silver in a box, start digging.  You might be buying a little bit of elegance to place in your home!
