Earlier this week, I shared the recipe for EASY TACO SOUP. Today, I will share the recipe for Easy Taco Seasoning that can be used in the EASY TACO SOUP! I found this recipe on the allrecipes.com website.
I made a change here and there to personalize it. No recipe is ever written in stone...well, except the one for Red Velvet Cake. If you make too many changes to that recipe, it is no longer Red Velvet Cake, but something more in line with a hot mess.
You can mix this together any time (it will store safely for quite a while) and you don't have to make any special purchases, as the spices are already on hand. It is a versatile recipe and easily increased for more seasoning or reduced for less.
EASY TACO SEASONING (printable copy here)
1/4 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon sea salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
Directions: Blend together in a small bowl....et voilà ! Store in an airtight container. Yield: 1 ounce.
I don't have to tell you that this seasoning blend can be used for more than one recipe. It will work in your chili recipe, you can mix it into your hamburger meat for hamburger patties, mix it in your pasta sauce, use it as a dry rub on chicken or pork, or add it to your hamburger meat for tacos or nachos...it will give a little kick to any recipe. Since I add a little cayenne pepper to my mix I use it in jambalaya and red beans and rice.
There are no rules...experiment to see what happens. If you don't like it, try adding (or omitting) a spice or two.
Enjoy!

Well, spicy food and I do not get along, but your pictures are hot, hot, hot!!
ReplyDeleteLOL…you are too funny! Thank you!!
DeleteThey do not sit well with me either, so I try to hold it to small portions and only every once in a while. Like the Cajun Shrimp & Grits I made earlier in the year….did not cross my lips!
I should do this and use in salads. I couldn't use the very spicy ingredients though. Chronic acid reflux.

That’s the good thing about this mix, you can shake it up to whatever suits you. I have a bit of that problem, so I take it easy on the portion I eat! Have a great evening Brenda!
DeleteIt is a beautiful photography, Benita! One thing my kids could live on, would be Tacos, We've even named Tuesday, "Taco Tuesday". I really don't like buying store bought taco seasoning! Thank you for sharing your recipe! BTW~ Love the color of your enamel colander! Very pretty!
ReplyDeletehugs, Christine
Christine, thank you so much! I like the Taco Tuesday idea!! I found that colander in a little shop in Franklin and knew it would come home with me. The color is perfect for photos and it is small so it works for smaller items. Again, thank you so much! Have a great evening! Hugs!!
DeleteThat's neat that you make it yourself. I have those ingredients, and it seems easy enough. Thank you for the recipe. oxox Su
ReplyDeleteYou are quite welcome Su! I alternate on store bought and homemade. It just depends on the mood and what I have on hand. :-) Have a wonderful day! Hugs!!

DeleteThis is interesting, I made enchilladas the other night with a mix and wondered if I could just make my own. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou know, this seasoning might work well with enchiladas…never hurts to try and thanks for giving me the idea for another dish to try it with! Thanks so much and you are quite welcome!
