Yes, Virginia, They Do Exist...

Contrary to popular belief, snow days do exist in Dallas, Texas....

As well as in Birmingham, Alabama...

Snow is definitely a rare thing in the South and Southwest, but when it happens, I love it and want more of it....or do I?

I've never had to shovel a driveway or a sidewalk.  When it snows down South, we stay home and play outside and drink lots of hot chocolate...the world just stops for the day...because that's about as long as it lasts...unless you are living in March, 1993.

There is no work, no school, no stores are open.....so there is no where to go!

We just sit and enjoy the snow!

  1. I would happily share some of the 54 years worth of snow I have trudged through, scooped, cleaned off of my car, and off of dogs, kids, etc! I consider "snow" a 4-letter word ;) But I do see how it could be a novelty if you rarely get it.....enjoy!!

    1. I am fascinated and enchanted with it since we do not get it often. The hubster has shoveled, scooped, cleaned, trudged, etc. when he was younger and he wants no part of it! :-) I do hope we get a couple of snowfalls this year…I’m waiting and waiting and waiting…LOL Hugs!!

  2. That is so wonderful when you peeps in the south get some snow and things shut down and you all have to stop the rush of life and stay home. Those have to be such enjoyable days. Up here in the North we are so use to snow and so prepared nothing ever shuts down!!!! The rush of life continues even when we see 14 inches of the white stuff. Still pretty to enjoy.

    1. They are so enjoyable and I suppose we enjoy them because they do not happen that often. If we got snow all the time, it would be a different story and we would move right along with life like you guys do. It is so very pretty until it turns to sludge, then I’m done with it…LOL. Hugs!!

    1. I'm the opposite...love to visit the beach but would prefer to live in the mountains with snow! :-)

  4. I especially love the snow when it comes straight down and is nice and fluffy.
unfortunately that almost NEVER happens here.
first we get about 6 hours of freezing rain that puts down a nice solid sheet of ice.
then we sometimes eventually get snow on top of the ice. usually with 40 mph gusts. :) sideways snow!
i miss upstate ny and the beautiful snows we had there.
    it's like a spring day here today. over 60 I think. :)

    1. It doesn’t happen here that often either. We get what you do…a nice sheet of ice under the wet snow. Occasionally, we will get the nice fluffy stuff, but not too often. I would love to live in upstate NY for a while. I keep asking the hubster when we are going to go north…he lived in NJ for a bit and is not anxious to go back to the shoveling…LOL Hugs!!

  5. Doesn't snow much here either. I love to sit on this couch and watch the snow fall on the patio.

    1. Wish we were getting some…these photos were from a couple of years ago. I’ve had a white Christmas 2 times….it just makes it so extra special! We’ve had lots of rain and lots of cold temps…just not together. Going down to the 20s tonight…and the sky is clear as a bell.

You are welcome and thank you! I hope I didn’t scare anyone off! Hugs to you sweet friend!!

  7. No snow here in Dallas this year.....yet. :) They say we are in a strong El Nino and snow is very likely. The first year we moved here from Oklahoma we had snow on Christmas Day!! I grew up here and that never happened so it was such a blessing. :)

  9. I love the snow but there is no way around how treacherous it is to drive in. I avoid it when possible and always worry about my family getting caught in a blizzard. I'm a real worry wart! And in the summer I freak over tornadoes! But really, it's simply so pretty to watch the snow falling, to play in it. To see my dogs frolicking in it in the backyard. I'll always love the 4 seasons we have here in the upper Midwest. :)

    Happy Weekend!

    1. OMGOSh driving in snow and ice is a total nightmare...and we always seem to get a nice sheet of ice before the snow starts! I let the hubster do the driving...I refuse. I've been trapped before and that one time, over 30 years ago, did it for me. Tornadoes....girl, don't even get me started on that horror....HATE them! But yes, the snow is gorgeous to see and so fun to play in...for about 7 minutes...then I'm frozen...LOL Hugs!!

  11. We always have a good chuckle in the northeast when we see news reports of how snow in the south shuts the city down and schools are closed. It has to be literally below zero for schools to close here, and if it is, believe me there is a lot of snow to go along with it. So used to it and so over it! It hasn't even started yet. We always complain up here when we don't have snow for a white Christmas too!

    1. LOL...we know y'all laugh at us....we laugh at us...LOL. It just doesn't make sense to pay for all of the equipment when the snows are just so rare....but they do try. We do have salt trucks, but not nary a snow plow in sight! :-) Would so love a white Christmas!!

  12. Your snowy photos are just beautiful and captured that peaceful silence look.

No snow here. I live near Stacey and have the same weather she does. Saturday was a beautiful day, clear blue skies and crispy air in the low 60s. Wonderful weather with just the right amount of cool to say, "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas."

    1. Thank you so much! These photos are from a couple of years ago. We haven't had a snow yet either...but I am hopeful! I'm hoping for some much cooler temps than what we have been having....I like a cold, frosty Christmas! :-)

  13. I love that last photo, Benita! So serene, and peaceful, just like everything stopped when the snow came! That's exactly how I am too. I like snow, to visit and play in! When I lived in Albuquerque, that was the first time I shoveled snow, and said never again! hugs

    1. Thank you Christine! And down South, everything does stop when it snows...it's so nice and peaceful! The hubster says never again also, but I'm working on changing his mind. I want to live where it snows most of the winter just once...and then, hopefully, it will be out of my system! :-) Hugs!!
