You had to have seen this coming and knew it wouldn't take long!
I finally found a good homemade eggnog recipe on Pinterest. I couldn't help myself. I've already started my withdrawals and they haven't even removed eggnog from the stores yet.
But I had to have it and needed to know that it would be good...for that occasion during the summer when I want a glass of eggnog while lounging poolside.
It is an easy, straightforward, simple recipe.
EASY EGGNOG
3/4 cup sugar
3 1/2 cups of 2% milk
1 teaspoon ground Cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
6 egg yolks
1 pint of heavy cream
1 cup of Rum (optional)
In a saucepan, combine milk, cinnamon, and nutmeg and bring to a slow (and I do mean slow) boil. Remove the saucepan from heat and set aside. Combine egg yolks and sugar with a hand mixer until well blended (when the yolks are an ivory color, you can stop). Slowly pour this mixture into the saucepan. Add the pint of cream. Return the saucepan to low heat and continue stirring until a creamy texture is formed...about 5-7 minutes. NOTE: heat must be low or you will scramble the eggs and curdle the milk. Pour into container and refrigerate overnight. Mix with rum when serving, if desired. Sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg.....or both or neither!
And yes, of course, I changed this recipe a little. I added vanilla extract to taste...you can add it or leave it out. Your choice.
I should have left well enough alone and kept this stuff away from my taste buds!

This recipe looks amazing! At least you'll be able to make it to your hearts content now!
Wishing you a Wonderful Christmas with your family...I'll be thinking of you!

Kimberley
Hi Kimberley! I hope you are having a fabulous time in Florida! And yes, eggnog while poolside…stick a straw in it and you have an instant milkshake! :-) Thank you so much…I’m glad it was pretty easy. I don’t think scorched or scrambled eggnog would taste very good! LOL Wishing you all a most fabulous and blessed Merry Christmas my sweet friend! Love and hugs to you!!
DeleteOf course, I may also be the size of Santa by the time summer comes along...sooooo many calories! :-)
DeleteCan you say fattening?? I had two sips yesterday of the creamy stuff and that is it for the season. I think it's too dangerous to make it year round!!!
ReplyDeleteExtraordinarily fattening! UGH...it is killing me! The hubster and I have a glass every single day....dangerous stuff for sure!!
Delete:-))
ReplyDeleteI am happy you found a fun recipe.
I will have to ask my husband to make some for us this season.
Merry Christmas,
Carla
Thanks so much Carla! And yes, definitely make this…you will love it! Merry Christmas!! Hugs!!
DeleteI like recipes without suggested serving sizes that I can use my own judgment like with this recipe for example I assume that makes just one serving right? haha! You should adapt this recipe to Eggnog Ice Cream for your 70F Christmas and pool side summer days! Happy Ribbon Candy Day!
ReplyDeleteGirl, I am with you on this one...don't tell me how many servings and with this, you are right...it was one large serving! Yummmmm, eggnog ice cream. I'm sure if I search Pinterest, I will find it. I've already got 2 recipes for Eggnog Cookies! :-) Happy Ribbon Candy Day to you too! :-)
DeleteThis has to be one of the biggest dangers of Christmas for people like us, haha. But the eggnog season is short, so....drink up!!
ReplyDeleteLOL..it is indeed! And while the season may be short, my waistline is already suffering the effects of too much imbibing...LOL
