Life Hacks #4

Life Hack is a strange word to use for offering someone a little advice from the experiences you've had or read about.  If I had more time, I would research how the word came into being, but, we will just imagine that it evolved from Heloise's Hints.  Remember her?  She used to be one smart chick, now the internet has replaced her and she is obsolete.
I don't know what it is about tennis balls, but people really seem to like them for more than playing tennis.  Hanging a tennis ball from your garage ceiling to keep you from running into the wall has become so popular that Amazon actually sells a kit for this.
Really?!  You need something hanging from the ceiling to tell you when to stop your car in the garage?!  I think once you hit the wall, that's a great indicator to stop the car!

Here's one that gets me...sleep cycle apps.  Apple (I haven't checked droid) has an app that measures your sleep and awakens you when you are in your lightest sleep phase.  Hmmm, what if your lightest sleep phase is at 2:00 a.m.?
AND, why do you need an app to tell how to sleep, when to go to sleep or how well you slept?  Don't you know?  Should I grab my grandparents from the grave and explain to them they did it all wrong?!?!  Here's our test...when we fall asleep halfway through an episode of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, that's our clue to go to bed...it doesn't matter that it is only 9:00...in the morning! ;-) What's next?  An app that tells me when to brush my teeth or when to go to the restroom??!!

While the stores sell many variations of plastic shopping bag holders, you can easily use an empty tissue box.
Dress it up or decorate it with some tips by P&G Everyday.  It's a two-fer and you all know how much I lover two-fers!

Don't like using harsh chemicals to clean your bathtub?  Use a grapefruit...yep, grapefruit!
Wet the tub from end to end and up the sides, apply a generous amount of salt to 1/2 of a grapefruit and scrub away, then rinse.  Sparkling clean and smells great!  I will be trying this one today as it is time to scrub the tub.

Have a few acne scars?  Mix a teaspoon of nutmeg and a tablespoon of honey to make a paste.
Apply and leave on for 30 minutes, then rinse.  Repeat daily until desired results achieved.  Of course, if you are allergic to nutmeg or honey, then this isn't for you!  And I have no idea if it works or makes it look worse.  Just sharing the info folks.

The number 30...
The approximate number of minutes a year's length can vary.  For instance, the year 2027 will last 365 days, 5 hours and 39 minutes, whereas, the year 2032 will last longer than 365 days and 6 hours. I dunno, you do the math...LOL

Have a great one!

  1. I'm amazed anyone would buy or make plastic shopping bag holders, because here in the UK it's almost impossible to get plastic shopping bags anymore. Which I think is a good thing btw. I use the reusable bags for life which I leave in the back of my car.

    1. The US is full of all things plastic. I have reusable bags but seem to always forget them if I'm doing my shopping, but if Walmart is doing it and I'm just picking up, they always have plastic bags. I need to keep my reusable bags in the trunk or front seat so that I can take them in with me! Have a great one! Hugs!

  2. I try to use recyclable bags when I am smart enough to remember to grab them out of the car and take them in. It is fun to see the life hacks. Some are simplistic and good and some of them are crazy and "what-the-what"?
Have a great day- xo Diana

    1. I need to be much better about it also. I have to end up throwing the plastic bags away because I have too many stuffed in my holder. Thanks so much, I am enjoying the research! There are so many things out...some so weird I cannot even post them here...LOL Have a great evening...love and hugs!

  6. I feel like they're making products to "dumb us down." Know what I mean? Like needing stuff you can use your brain for. That Alexa stuff is just crazy to me. I'm going to all natural cleaners. I was using Mrs. Meyers and I like it, but it is scented, which bothers Charlie. I've found that making a paste of baking soda, for instance, and using it to clean a pan is better than any of the chemical cleaners out there.

    1. Brenda, I agree with you! I do not need my phone for everything and walk away from it as often as I can. I use it for an alarm clock, I don't need it to tell me how well I slept or to find something to put me to sleep...it's crazy! YES, the baking soda is amazing for cleaning! I'm trying to find more natural cleaners as well! Love and hugs!

  7. I like the idea of cleaning with grapefruit. I have used lemons to clean my cutting boards.

    1. I’m looking forward to it! I’ve heard that lemons do a great job on the cutting boards…I’ve never tried it, but all we use ours for is slicing cheese…LOL Love and hugs!

  8. They charge us for plastic bags at the stores now...5 cents for each one. Of course, I forget my recyclable ones every time. Cha-Ching!!

    1. Wow! That is crazy to charge for them. I suppose it is to encourage everyone to bring their own bags. I would be carting my things out a few at a time, without a bag...that gets expensive! Love and hugs!

Vinegar is a cleaner I love to use, the only problem is my husband HATES the smell...poor guy!
