This past weekend was a sad weekend. I had to put away the Christmas decorations. For some reason it always makes me sad to take down the tree and pack away all things Christmas. I've also heard of some bloggers leaving the community and that makes me equally as sad. I haven't been blogging that long but have made some wonderful friends. I left for a little over a year and when I came back, quite a few bloggers that I loved were gone...times, they are a' changin'.
We are in our first full week of the new year and I hope yours if off to a good start. While I don't pick one specific word for the new year, I do pick several that will occasionally turn into a sentence for the new year. This year, I'm choosing "less stuff = less stress = more time"...more time for people...more freedom. Stuff always has strings attached and I'm choosing to cut those strings. I've already given away lots of items and will continue to filter out and give away more. I feel less confined already. Soooo, onto the subject at hand...Life Hacks.
Drinking 5 cups of green tea a day can help you lose belly fat.
I don't like regular tea, so I doubt I will drink green tea. Belly fat will just have to hang around like an old tire or it will be battled with ab exercises.
Use melted chocolate to remove gum that is stuck in your hair...it will come right out.
If you were a child I would say this is an excellent hack, but how many adults actually get gum stuck in their hair?! And WHY would I waste perfectly good chocolate that needs to go into my mouth by putting it in my hair?! A good pair of sharp scissors will remove that gum just as well!
If you forget a word, clench your fist.
Clenching your fist has been proven to increase brain activity and improve memory...just ask any guy who has been a bar fight!
Before you sign up for the gym membership, you know the one that is part of that forgotten New Year's Resolution, check your healthcare plan.
You may get it for free, get it reimbursed, or offered to you at a discounted rate. Let me just say, that chick up there is not me at the gym...
...this chick is more like me. I will sit on the ball to look like I know what I'm doing, then promptly fall off the minute I move into some tortuous balancing exercise on that thing! They are dangerous to my health and I will need that healthcare plan after being on one of these things!
Wrap your sandwiches in paper towels before putting them in a plastic bag...no more soggy sandwiches!
Likewise, if you have sandwiches sitting on the counter waiting to be eaten, cover them in a damp paper towel to keep the bread from getting hard.
This one everyone knows...if you need to withdraw a quick $10 or $20, use your debit card at the quick mart to make a small purchase...
...avoid those "other bank" ATM fees.
I will leave you with a few words from Marilyn Monroe...
"I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they are right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together."

I love Marilyn Monroe and her quotes.
ReplyDeleteI have to have a lot of cream and some sugar in warm tea to be able to drink it. Green tea has no taste. Thank you for the hint of the sandwiches, never thought of the wrapping a paper towel around the like that. The clenching of the fist for remembrance, will definitely try. Great post
betsy
I do too! I am an oddity having grown up in the south and not like sweet tea or really any kind of tea. I think the only way I could drink green tea was to bury it in a smoothie! You are so welcome! I keep forgetting to clench my fist...LOL Thanks so much! Have a great one! Love and hugs!
DeleteI love to read life hacks! Sometimes the simplest ideas make our days easier. :)
ReplyDeleteI couldn’t agree more! Since I started this little series, I’m find all sorts of cool things. One that I found that does not work is Coke for cleaning the toilet…didn’t do a thing for mine! Love and hugs!
DeleteThere are a few bloggers I have been wondering and worrying about....in particular Deb from Frugal Little Bungalow. I reached out to her via email a while back to see if she's ok but no reply. Praying for her.
ReplyDeleteMe too Debbie. I go to their sites and the last post will be quite some time ago, much like Deb's. Hopefully you will hear something from her before too long! I hate the changes that are taking place. Love and hugs!
DeleteI love Marilyn and her quote. I like your words for the new year. I am grabbing one of them, the less stress. Ohhhh how we all need less stress for the new year! I love the sandwich tip. That is great. Ok I do not think I could even sit on that damn ball period!!! Thanks for showing the picture of me lifting weights. That was so kind of you lol! Have a good week my friend. I am sad about all the MIA bloggers too. A lot have gone over to IG.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kris
I love Marilyn and a lot of her quotes also. Thank you so much! Take what you need. 😊 I agree, we could all do with less stress and more time for the things that make us happy! I that it was pretty cool on the sandwich also. I love finding these little tips to share. LOL…I’m with you. I see people use those balls at the gym and all I can think is that someone is going to be calling the paramedics before it’s over with…LOL And you are very welcome…I wanted to show you off to everyone! 😊 Hope you are having a great week! Love and hugs to you!!
DeleteWith our moving I’m having to leave some things behind and am sad about it, but when my back is turned I will no longer think about them. I too find tea boring i know so many who drink it but it needs a shot of bourbon. (Smile). I need to add relax and enjoy my life. It goes too quickly. I envy those who turn off the world. I want to be charitable without worrying if the cat and dog hair is not off the floor. God made us to live and love in his world. Yes there are thorns but we don’t have to stay snagged in them. Love you my friend. PS. Sorry Alabama lost.
ReplyDeleteThat's usually how it is with stuff...we want it and don't want it to be away from us until it is out of sight and then we forget about it. I just cannot drink tea...I've tried and do not like the taste of it. LOL @ bourbon...would definitely liven it up a bit! Life does go by too quickly and we've decided we need to start enjoying more of it and let go of the stressors. I couldn't agree more...God doesn't worry if our floors or clean or the house is in order, he just wants us to open the door! LOL @ Alabama losing...they needed a dose of humility and Clemson fed it to them with a big ol' spoon! :-) Love you sweet friend!!
DeleteEnjoyed the randomness of this post! Peanut butter will also take gum out of your hair or off clothes (I know this because I washed and dried my daughter's shirt with my ex's business shirts and gum on everything!) And Marilyn...she was smarter than people thought! I read once she and Shelly Winters were roommates and they made a list of guys they would someday sleep with. Marilyn's list included Einstein. Shelly gave her a hard time about it, but years later at a party Marilyn told Shelly she completed her whole list!
ReplyDeleteThank you ma'am! I'm enjoying it also...I like finding all the little tidbits. :-) Good to know about the peanut butter! She was so much smarter...a shrewd business woman. LOL...that is too funny! I believe it! I've never been a Shelly Winter's fan, but loved Marilyn. We saw a one-woman play here in Dallas a few years ago...it was about Marilyn's last photo shoot...quite a bit of interesting stuff she shared with that photographer! Hope you are doing well! Love and hugs!
DeleteMarilyn!! xx oo
ReplyDeleteI agree, less .. I am with you. Less Stress for sure!
Loved Marilyn!! And yes….less is definitely more this year! Also, an attitude of gratitude!! Love and hugs!
DeleteGreat hacks, Benita!! I love the green tea hack, that would be an easy way to ditch belly fat...unfortunately I don't like tea. I don't like exercise either though, so maybe I should learn to like tea! ;)

LOL…thank you! You are like me…I hate exercise and I hate tea! I’m thinking I need to find one of those vintage machines that just shakes you until the fat falls off….but then I would have to get new teeth, thus proving that everyone from Alabama doesn’t have a full set of teeth…and it would just be an endless ugly cycle! 😉 Love and hugs!
Not just Alabama, but North Carolina too ;).
ReplyDeleteI’ll drink tea, but only if I’ve got a few sweet cookies to wash it down with, but I suppose that defeats the purpose. Who cares!
Marilyn was thougt as the sterotypical ‘dumb blonde’, but I think it had as much to do with the way she spoke as her hair color. Very childlike but let face it, sexy as all get out.
xxx
LOL...true!
DeleteI have tried so many times to acquire a taste for tea, but it just hits my taste buds in the wrong place. Yeah, something strong and sweet in the cookie or cake department might make it palatable...LOL
I loved her and I agree. The way she spoke was not indicative of a bright mind, but I don't care...she rocked everything she had! :-) Love and hugs sweet friend!
I'm catching up on your blog and of course - I'm LOVIN' it :)
ReplyDeleteChristie :)
Thank you so much! It’s not like you haven’t had your hands full! Love you and hope things are settling down a bit!
