All Great Projects...

...are usually someone else's idea...at least that's how it is for me.  I am a type A personality and rarely have wildly, creative ideas.  I can take someone else's great creative idea and morph it into something of my own, but those ideas do not come to me naturally.  This project was no exception...well, the exception was I didn't change one single thing about it.  I liked it just the way it was.
As most of you know, I work from home.  While working, I will have the TV on as "background noise".  In the mornings I usually have it on Hallmark's Home & Family.  I like the recipes they share and like a lot of their craft projects.  Some of them are not my style and some of them are way out of my league, but occasionally, there is one that I know I can do.

One morning a few weeks ago, the hubster was working from home and caught sight of something pretty cool.  He told me about it but I had already missed the segment.  Soooo, I looked it up online and decided I could do it without the hubster's help.  A few days later, I gathered my supplies, asked begged the hubster to let me use a power tool and made this neat little clock.

We have tons, and I mean tons, of books around our home, so I grabbed one of those, removed the sleeve and grabbed the clock kit I had previously purchased at Hobby Lobby.  NOTE:  no humans, animals or works of literature were harmed in the making of this project!

I laid out my pieces to determine where on the book cover I wanted to place the clock...

...marked my spot and drilled a hole.
There is no right or wrong...it can be anywhere on the cover.

After drilling through the cover, I screwed the clock mechanism through the inside of the cover, marked where I needed to cut through my pages so that it would fit and using an Xacto knife, began cutting a hole in the pages.

I had to occasionally close the book to determine how deep into the book I needed to cut.  I cleaned up some of the edges with scissors as I went along.  Once the book would close without looking clumpy, I attached the hands of the clock.
After inserting a battery, I set the time and it was good to go.

Don't you just love it?!  It was such a neat idea that I just couldn't resist making one...
...or two...
...or twelve! ;-)

They used vintage books on the segment, but I just couldn't do it.
And, since I know you are dying to ask....my nails currently match the color of my hair! :-)

    1. Thank you Penny! I wish I could take credit for it. I need to try to create something crafty that no one else has done, but I don’t know that there is anything left. 😊 Hugs!!

  4. What a neat idea. I gave lots of books away last year while on cleaning spree. Donated some to our library at church that was in good shape. I am like you. I can copy someone else project and even add a twist to it. I rarely come up with things on my own and when I do! Girl, I am like...DANG you pretty smart aren't ya? LOL! Hugs and blessings, Cindy

    1. It was a neat idea...I'm glad the hubster caught the segment. We have so many books...and that is after getting rid of a few boxes of them during our last book. There is just something about a book that draws me in, especially the vintage books. I wish I could come up with some of these ideas...but when I see a book, all I see is a book, not something else it could be...I have a one track mind...LOL Love and hugs!!

  5. But, my friend, there aren't that many "original" ideas. Someone makes something. Someone else improves upon it, and so it goes. I love them!

    1. Brenda, I do believe that is true. So many items have been transformed into other things, I don’t know that there is a lot left that hasn’t been done. Thanks so much! Love and hugs!

  6. Very cute! And I definitely believe you have blue hair. It probably looks really cute on you. I was at a party recently and this young woman had the exact hairstyle I do. She had it highlighted it with Emerald green. Turns out she is a hairdresser and the color is permanent. She was also about 40 years younger than me so I knew I couldn't go there! I wanted to though :-)

    1. Thank you so much AnnMarie! I always keep some color of blue or purple lately...I keep trying to go back to a normal color, but can't seem to make the transition. I wanted pink, but my normal hair color is so dark that it won't take and I don't want to bleach it out to make the pink work. Oh, I bet the green is beautiful!! I don't think age should be a deterrent...if you want green, pink or purple or blue...go for it! :-) Love and hugs!!

  7. I agree with Brenda...not too many "original" ideas out there Benita....although there are some who insist on crediting them with the original idea.
I am thinking in particular of the famous thin cocoa cake recipe I have, ie; Texas Sheet cake and other names that have been attached over the years. I was 15 years old when my Aunt Dorothy gave me the recipe and I am almost certain she got it from one of her friends....so who knows where it actually came from, certainly I will not ask for credit. But a few of these young whipper-snappers these days claim it is their "original" recipe. LOL
So never apologize for an idea you stumble upon.
I love your book clocks and those would be great gifts especially if the person is a fan fave of a particular writer. Great Job my friend.

    1. Thank you so much Kari! I also think about Mississippi Mud Pie/Cake…that has been called so many names and tweaked so many times over the years, I’ve had it every way there is I think. I know what you mean, I’ve seen some people take credit for ideas on IG and then I think, “wait, that was around when I was a kid in the 70s”…LOL The hubster said I should find books with the word “time” in them and use those to make these. Thank you so much again! Love and hugs!

  8. I love this Benita. I am like you and will see something and copy it with my own twist on it. So it is all good.

    1. Thank you so much! That's what I try to do when I see something out there that I'm interested in...figure out what I can do to make it a little different. These, however, were perfect just the way they were and I didn't see anything I could do differently! I may have to think on that a bit though! Hope you are having a great week! Stay warm! Love and hugs!
