A Quick DIY Project...

The Halloween decorations are in full swing at our house.  I have a few (very few) fall things sitting around, but the decor right now is all about October 31st.  Halloween is always a big deal for us because that is when we met...so it is an anniversary of sorts.

I never know how my seasonal decor is going to fall into place until I drag it all out of the attic.  I purged quite a few things this year and still had more than plenty for Halloween.  One thing I didn't have and couldn't find at a reasonable price was a "spell" book.  As I pondered weak and weary, it came to me that I could check the Internet...surely the Internet has a reasonably-priced spell book for me.

I firmly believe the Internet holds the answers (along with tutorial videos) to all of life's nonsensical questions.  Google, I need a spell book...and *poof* there are all kinds of spell books available and plenty of tutorials to make your own.  There were some available for purchase from the Wicca sites, but I figured I should steer clear of those....the hubster might turn into a frog or some such thing before it was over with.  Pinterest was the safer site to visit, so I decided to give my DIY skills another chance.  I weighed my options, found a project that passed the KDS (Kindergarten Difficulty Scale) and started to work.

I bought a curious volume of forgotten lore at Half Price Books.  When I got home I printed two spells on some vintage colored paper.  I tore the edges off and then used coffee to stain the torn edges.  Since the use of Elmer's Glue can sometimes become a catastrophic event at my house, I chose Dippin' Dots (better known as Zots - clear adhesive dots) to glue my torn pages into my new "spell" book....et voila! The finished product!

I chose two spells that I knew would be harmless if someone read them out loud...but this strange thing started happening.  The hubster will sometimes follow me through the house chanting the spell on "How to Disempower a Witch".  I keep telling him that I'm not a witch, I'm in menopause!

  1. Cute lil spell book! I'll have to remember the glue dots..Zots. The hubster should really be more cautious. Strange things happen around Halloween! BTW, I don't know how we survived without the internet. Pinterest is my vault of information. Need a recipe...check Pinterest...Bob's yer uncle!

    1. Thank you so much! I've missed you too! If the hubster and I hadn't have had little kids between the two of us, we would probably be doing the same thing! :-)

  4. I love the story of you two meeting, Benita! And I don't think Edward would change a thing about his beautiful fascinating witch!

Many more Halloween first-meeting anniversaries to you both,

  6. Benita,
Bewitching spell book ... I sort of skip right over Halloween usually, but stumbled across a cute black pumpkin with flowers on PINTEREST, of course. Now, I'm thinking of a Halloween vignette. Maybe it will happen, maybe not.

  7. Pleased to read that 'The Halloween decorations are in full swing at your house.' We don't seem to decorate quite as early here in the UK. The shops are choc-a-block full of Halloween gifts and goodies though, so plenty to choose from...

    All the best Jan

    1. Some of the stores start putting out Halloween, Fall and Christmas décor in July. Unfortunately, you have to buy it then or you won’t be able to find what you want! I don’t understand putting it out so early…commercialism is what it boils down to unfortunately. Love and hugs to you Jan!
