Life Hacks #9

I don't know about your neck of the woods, but spring is in full swing here in Texas!  Temps have been in the 60s and 70s and the pollen is choking us all! :-)

Want to eliminate all those tears when slicing onions?

Place them in the freezer fifteen minutes prior to slicing...no more tears!

Feel a bit nervous about something?  Chew gum.

Your brain reasons that there is no danger since you are eating, thus the nervousness stops.

Tired of your storage containers having weird smells?

Place some crunched newspaper inside and leave it overnight.  The paper absorbs the smell.

Do you like the color green?

Being in a green setting or glancing at the color green has been proven to make you more creative.

Tired of waiting on hold when you call customer service?

The FastCustomer app will make the call for you, wait on hold and will call you back when a human is on the line.

Just so you know, Starbucks will give you a free coffee on your birthday!

Enjoy!

  2. I have a thing for green! My favorite color so that should mean I'm creative, right? Ha!

I will definitely try the onion trick! I don't think the pollen spike has hit here yet but I know my d-i-l has mentioned her spring sneezing has started in east TN. Of course she has an oil for that!

I want to try the onion trick and the newspaper in storage containers. Hope they both work! I have never seen so much pollen here in Texas. It seems right now, everything is absolutely covered in yellow! Love and hugs!

    1. I chew it occasionally, but I don't think I've ever noticed it calming me down. I will have to make a point to chew gum the next time I'm anxious about something to see if it works! Hugs!

    1. Some of these sound plausible, others, I'm not so sure about. We are covered in pollen here and my allergies are driving me nuts! Normally we don't have that much pollen here but this year, it is really high! YVW! Love and hugs!

  7. Love this every Friday Benita and look forward to it. I have never heard the chewing gum idea. Awesome.
I cheat and buy the container of fresh cut onions from the store and then bring them home and put them in a zip lock bag and throw them in the freezer until I need some. Happy Friday.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  8. Great tips Benita....I love the newspaper in the plastic containers. I will try that one for sure. I really haven't found a good solution for slicing or chopping onions....perhaps freezing will work. Hugs sweet friend and have a great week end.

    1. Let me know if it works! I chew gum frequently and haven’t noticed any change in my nervousness…I need to pay more attention…maybe it is a psychological deal. Hope you had a great weekend! Thanks so much! Glad you enjoy them! Love and hugs!

  10. I read somewhere that if you are slicing an onion, light a candle nearby first - the flame will absorb the gases from the onion, so no tears. I guess that must be so since I usually have a candle going on my kitchen counter when I'm making dinner and no tears for me!

    1. Yep, the pollen down here is crazy right now. My allergies are killing me. I keep a dull headache. We need a good rain to wash it all way! I’m afraid we are going to be short on rain this year though. So glad you enjoy them! Love and hugs!

  12. This cracked me up. I have never used green however when I started quilting I kept navigating to green. For orders I wipe my plastic out with Clorox wipes to clear out the oils. Love ya girl.

    1. Green is not one of my favorite colors...olive is good, but bright green, not for me. I will try the Clorox wipes...I need something to remove the stains as well, so if you know of anything, let me know! Love and hugs to you!!
