Sadly, our 12 Days of Christmas are at an end. It was fun while it lasted.
We started with quite a bit of birds and are ending with men roaming all over the place...I don't know quite what to make of that! :-)
Yesterday, Eleven Pipers Piping starting flitting around, but they actually represent the 11 faithful Apostles.
Originally there were 12, but one dropped out...he just couldn't stick with the program.
Today, our Twelve Drummers Drumming came marching in...
...symbolizing the twelve points of belief in The Apostles' Creed.
I was raised Catholic and cannot recall ever hearing The Apostles' Creed while at mass. We converted to Southern Baptist when I was 12 and to my knowledge, it is not used in the Baptist church. I heard something similar recited the first time I went to the Anglican church with the hubster....The Nicene Creed. As I read over The Apostles' Creed, I noticed many similarities to The Nicene Creed. Sooooo, I had to use Mr. Google to find out the difference. If you are interested, you can read about it here.
So there you have it...The 12 Days of Christmas and what it might really mean. It makes me wonder how many more carols there are that have a much deeper meaning. Guess I will save that for Christmas 2016!
Now you all know that I could NOT let you walk away without a video...

Great and interesting series Benita-this old dog learned a thing or two!
ReplyDeleteThank you ma'am...glad you enjoyed it! :-)
DeleteWow, I hadn't thought about the Nicene Creed since Confirmation! I was raised Lutheran but confess that I don't spend a whole lot of time in church these days :( This series was definitely educational, but I have to say that your graphics were the highlight for me, haha. Can't wait to see what is up next on your blogging schedule!
ReplyDeleteI was in 2nd grade when I had confirmation, so I hope I didn’t have to learn it…LOL. If I did, I remember absolutely NOTHING about it. I’m glad you enjoyed it and thank you so much! Keep your expectations low for this blog and you will be pleasantly surprised! LOL Hugs sweet friend!!
DeleteThank you for the explanation of "The Twelve Days' of Christmas. I vaguely remember learning that when I was in grammar school. Is it still called grammar school? We learned a few other songs that hid their real meaning, but it was so long ago I can't remember what they were. I am Catholic. Have been all 67 years of my life. The Nicene Creed has been part of the Mass since the 6th Century. It's prayed right after the homily/sermon which comes right after the Gospel is read. The Apostles' Creed is usually used for private prayer. The Apostles' Creed is also the first prayer of the Rosary.
ReplyDeleteYou are so very welcome and I hope you enjoyed it! And yes, it is still grammar school...at least to me! :-) I was so very young when we were Catholic, I remember very little, except being popped for talking in church by the nuns while in Mass each morning before school. Oh, and picture day at Catholic school because we could wear whatever we wanted on that day. I remember bits and pieces of the Rosary and still have my grandmother's set. Thank you so much for commenting and I hope you will visit again!
DeleteI've loved this series, Benita...you made it very interesting, serious and fun as well. That takes a good writer (and thinker). I am Catholic and I remember having to learn by heart the Apostle's Creed for my Confirmation. For the life of me, I couldn't get beyond the first line! Thankfully I didn't have to recite it during Confession...but I was a wreck. Still don't know it by heart!!!
ReplyDeleteLove and Happy New Year to you and yours. If you come to Chicago this month please email me!!
Jane x
Thank you so much Jane! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I make a much better Baptist than I do Catholic. I can't remember the Apostle's Creed even though I went through confirmation. We went to Mass with my sister Christmas Day and I was so lost with all the things they do now, especially girls as alter boys....that was unheard of when I was little! Happy New Year to you and your family and I will most definitely let you know if I am going to make it. I'm trying to get my scheduled situated to make it up there with the hubster! Hugs sweet friend!!
DeleteThank you...and thank you for making Christmas last a little bit longer. Are you sure there's not a 24 days of Christmas song? My tree is still up and I really could use an excuse to keep it there a bit longer! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome and thank you! I think we could probably write another 12 verses just to make it last a little longer! :-) Our tree is still up also….it is just so peaceful to have those lights on in the evening. There will definitely be a huge empty spot when we have to take it down!
DeleteI learnt so much following along...I really had no idea the meaning behind most of it, and found it all so interesting! I loved the graphics too!! ;)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I was raised Catholic too Benita...
And I agree with Kim...yu could keep this up for another 12 days, just make it all up we won't know...that way it won't seem weird that all my decorations are still up!! ;)
Big Hugs to you!! Kimberley
Thank you so much and I'm so glad you enjoyed it! It was interesting to me. I tried to keep it from being so heavy...the pictures helped lighten it up a bit! :-) We converted when I was 12, so the memories I have from the Catholic church are not all good ones...I went to Catholic school also. I was a wild child and stayed in trouble...LOL....imagine that! I was usually getting popped with a ruler by one of the nuns or by my piano teacher...not a fun time. I left Catholic school when I was in 4th grade; the diocese closed it down. Yep, got in all that trouble before I was even 9 years old...LOL Our decorations are still up also....so we are 3 peas in a pod! LOL Big hugs to you sweet friend!!
DeleteBenita I've enjoyed your Christmas posts and learned from them. Please next Christmas explore more carols.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to all your 2016 shares.
xoxo,
Vera
Thank you so much Vera! It was interesting and educational to me as well. I will definitely put it on my calendar to find out about more carols and get those posts ready. I’m looking forward to your blog posts in 2016 as well. I really loved the New Year’s Eve post! Hugs!!
DeleteHow interesting. Born & raised Catholic (ya think, with being the youngest of nine??), I never really was aware of the nuances between the Apostles' and Nicene creed. Learn something new every day.....now, if I can just put all that into rote memory like we were schooled back in the day. :)
ReplyDeleteWow...9??? I cannot imagine!! I didn't remember the Apostles' Creed from Catholic church at all...and I went through confirmation. I suppose I've just blocked it all out. But in the hubster's church, the Nicene Creed is said every service, so I'm getting familiar with that one, even though they are pretty darn close in wording. I'm having the same problem, so don't feel bad...LOL :-)
DeleteFun, Fun! I enjoyed this. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteAnd we love that song. My boys laugh and laugh.
Carla
Thank you so much Carla, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! The 12 Pains are hilarious….and so true sometimes! :-) Hugs!!
Deleteyour post always bring a smile to one's face. We need more joy in our lives and you help bring it.
ReplyDeleteAwww, thank you so much! Laughter brings joy and we always try to find something to laugh about so that we don't get bogged down in all the heaviness of this world. I like sharing our laughter! :-) Hugs!!
DeleteWell Done Benita ...
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you so much Jan! I hope you enjoyed it! Hugs!!
