Yesterday, I showed you photos of the #2 guest bedroom and made a reference to beer and champagne. I don't know why I'm automatically drawn to the things I cannot afford for my house, thus the Champagne Taste and Beer Budget.
So, you've seen my starting point in this bedroom.
The biggest problem I'm having is making a commitment...to a bed! I've seen so many beds that I just love and as soon as I say I'm going to order it, the price changes (to something higher because I didn't purchase while it was on sale) or I find something I like better! Why am I so indecisive when it comes to these purchases??!! Well, for starters, it is a large purchase. It's not like a small lamp that I can easily return if I decide I don't like it in the room. It's a massive undertaking to return a large piece of furniture and I don't want to go through the hassle. Secondly, I want to find it at a price I can afford.
So far, everything I really, really like and want to buy is over my budget for this room. Now do you see why I'm starting work on the One Room Challenge for Spring now? It will take me that long to make a decision about a bed and we don't even want to get started on my issues with choosing a paint color. You've seen how long it took....27 weeks....to make a final decision on a paint color for that small half-bath!
Because this bedroom is smaller, I've been tossing around the idea of a full-sized bed for this room. This decision brings an additional problem....most of the beds I like only come in queen or king. I can use a queen bed, but it will severely limit open floor space in this room. Next question...does it really make any difference since it is just a guest room and we rarely have people in both guest rooms at the same time?
I found this bed from Wayfair that I really, really, really love....
....but it is waaaayyyy over the budget. So my goal is to find something comparable that I will love just as much. Thus, my commitment dilemma??!!
I also found this comfy, cushy, crinkly/wrinkly-looking bedding, also outside of the budget constraints...
I've been trying to find a name for the look I want to use in this bedroom and all I can think of is "bed-head"...a sleepy, squishy, casual, dreamy, rumpled look.
I've been trying to convince myself to hate this bed, but I love the lines and style. And I've also been playing the "switcharoo" game in my head.....you know...if I get this, then I can sell that, move this over there, sell one of the children, and then paint this....all of it ending in complete frustration. Am I the only one who torments myself over these things??!! :-) I think not...LOL
AND, just when I think I'm going to commit to something...a bed, bedding, wall color, etc., I see this....
...and it starts all over again. Let me just tell you now...I love that mottled wall, that iron bed, those floors and this bedding...yes, I know it is just a photo set, but still....
The floor option will not be changing in this room...I can just see the look on the hubster's face when I announce I want brand new carpeting ripped out and hardwoods put in....LOL
*Sigh* I can't pick a paint color for the walls until I find the right bed. Maybe if I pick a wall color it will force my hand on making a bed decision! Have I mentioned I'm a little OCD??!! And how would I ever be able to speak if you removed the word "love" from my vocabulary?!?!

Hey girl. We have more than one guest room and we do have full size in one room. Funny enough, that's the room people like the best and use the most because it's downstairs. Nobody ever fusses about the fact that it's a full instead of a queen. We made an upholstered headboard for our bedroom upstairs and it was easy peasy. You won't get exactly that look but it's inexpensive. I've always heard that if space is an issue to go without a footboard because it takes up less space visually. I think I believe that although I think footboards are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBoth of ours are upstairs and we haven't had a lot of company yet. This fall will be the test for us! :-) I have been checking out the DIY versions also and if we can find enough time to stay put, I would love to do that. I love having the footboard also. It's good that some of them are now set so low that they take up so little space, which is great in a small room! Hope you had a great weekend! I'm playing catch up! Hugs!
DeleteOK! What is a friend good for??????? Hu? Hu? Hu? For throwing a completely different plan for this room, at you!!!! Heh-heh-heh... (With friends like that, who needs enemies! But.....)
ReplyDeleteWhy do you need 2 guest rooms??? Why do you need to pull your hair out, over a bed? When the room already has a purpose? Hubby's stuff!
See, I am not one for doing that, which *might* be needed *sometime.* Another guest bed.
Your husband has a need/purpose for this room, right now. Do it up, for this husband's-right-now-purpose.
(Hubster, are you listening??????? Doesn't this sound like the best plan?)
-running, ducking and hiding-
You are so funny!! I love your ideas and that you take up for the hubster...he needs someone in his corner. We do actually have a Plan B...I posted it on the blog today. And believe me, he reads every single comment so he can see who is in his corner...LOL Sweet love and hugs Susan....and leaving me laughing!!
DeleteI love your inspiration and ideas, Benita! I too am looking at squishy, cozy, messy and pretty bed linens, but just like you I am taking it slow.
ReplyDeleteLinens are expensive and whatever I choose I will be living with for quite awhile!
Happy Friday Sweet Friend!
Looking forward to seeing you sometime in the Spring!
xoxo
Jemma
Thank you so much! I think the comfy bedrooms are always the best. Yep, at the cost of things, we are taking our time making the right decisions and weighing all of the options! I hope you had a most wonderful weekend sweet friend!! We are looking/hoping for March! :-) Love and hugs to you!!
DeleteSometimes a blank slate is so much tougher to work with than a redo where you already have some of the pieces. It can be fun for sure, but oh boy, it can be pricey!! Can't wait to see where the design goes!
ReplyDeleteGirl, it most definitely is! If something is already there, then you can build. When nothing is there, it takes a lot of imagination...at least it does for me! And yes...expensive most definitely! Sheesh!! At the rate I'm going, it may be late summer before this room is pulled together! LOL Hugs!!
DeleteYes, Kim is right. A blank slate is much tougher to work with. But with your OCD, I think you need some nudging. Enter moi. I have never moved in anywhere, whether it was 700 square feet or 3000 square feet, that I did not have it fully decorated within two weeks. It can be done. But perhaps look beyond where you're currently looking. How about going to a antique junk mall (where I get most everything) and maybe finding a bed there? Or Craig's List? You aren't committing your life to it. You just need to get furniture in there AND MOVE ON. If you don't want the flea market style look, I will understand. But if you need me (and you know I love you) I will be happy to get behind you and push.
ReplyDeleteBrenda
I do have to have some nudging, that's for sure. My OCD and need to have everything perfectly in place holds me back from so many things. I have been looking on Craigslist and VarageSale, but haven't found anything I want to spend money on. And since whatever I get will travel with us to the next house, I want to make sure it is something I will enjoy. I do love the flea market looked and did some perusing there this weekend as well. Darrielle sent me a message that she may have something, so I'm going to take a look with her also! I appreciate it so much and am thankful that I have friends who will push me in the right direction...truly!! :-) I need it sometimes!
DeletePier one has some reasonably priced beds.
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at theirs and at World Market....I feel like I've seen every bed out there several times now...LOL
DeleteOh, Benita, I do love that last picture! Everything except the herbs hanging on the wall. And for a guest room, do you really need an expensive padded headboard? Sure you want a comfortable mattress for your guests but think of all the days that guests will not be staying with you and it's only you and hubster in there enjoying the looks of it, without having to break the bank for it. I bet you could replicate your version of it if you took your time and searched for bargains and the right paint.
ReplyDeleteWhile hubster is making music for you, you could loll on that bed--and blog!
I love it also...it is so rustic and elegant! No ma'am, we don't need anything expensive or fancy....I'm just having a hard time finding the thing I like the best for the space. The iron bed is perfect also and if I can find something iron and inexpensive, that will take the day! :-) We are definitely taking our time....as I have on other furniture purchases...it's worse than buying a car! LOL..yes, I could definitely do that if they ever get us hooked up with internet! :-) Love and hugs to you sweet friend!
DeleteI don't envy you all the decisions but I do envy you that you get to decorate a room from square one! When I did my house room by room I chose the wall color first. The rest just fell into place.
ReplyDeleteThe decisions seem to take longer than the actual doing sometimes…LOL. I’ve been thinking about that also…that if I decide about the paint color, then the rest will work out. I’m torn on going with a totally different color or just leaving it the neutral color that it is….all these decisions…LOL
DeleteWow you have a tough decision on your hands, my friend - I am loving both of those gorgeous inspiration photos!!! I went with an iron headboard because of multiple reasons - it complimented the Big Green Monster in my guest room and the quilts I was retiring from my room into the guest room....it was inexpensive....and it's timeless. But I considered the upholstered option like your other photo, also - so beautiful!! Can't wait to see what you do...and I'm sure it will be gorgeous! xo
ReplyDeleteIron beds are definitely timeless and go with any decor. If I can find a nice vintage iron bed, then I will go that route....it will work in any house and we do move quite a bit. I've never had an upholstered bed before, so I don't know how I feel about it and the cleaning options. I'm a freak about those things...LOL. Thank you so much! Hugs!!
DeleteCan't wait to see how it turns out!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I can't wait either and am ready to be settled in this home! :-)
DeleteI am sure what ever you decide will look great. The problem is that there are so many beautiful looks for a bedroom it makes it so hard to pin one down. I know the feeling.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I know what you mean…give me 3 choices….not 7,000….LOL. I like it better when I only have a few items to choose from! Hugs!!
DeleteI completely know the feeling. I do really love that from Wayfair. Hopefully you can find an alternate option that will fit your budget. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Yes, that is what I'm counting on...that I fill find something that I love just as much and stay within my budget! :-) Hugs!
DeleteI saw a twin size bed very similar to this this morning...just beautiful! It's so hard to decide! I am redoing the guest room this year and in the same predicament. So many great choices. All my beds need to be the squishy, messy, cozy is a MUST around here with all these pups. Good luck... xoxo, T.
ReplyDeleteI love the iron bed and the upholstered bed…so it is definitely a hard decision. Just have to find one in my budget…LOL Thank you so much sweet friend and good luck to you as well! :-) Fun times ahead! Love and hugs!!
DeleteThe Wayfair bed is, indeed, gorgeous. But it seems like it would be easier and less expensive to find an iron headboard to create that dreamy, chic, romantic look you are craving. Plus, coordinating bedding to the bed's upholstery fabric is another possible dilemma...so I guess I'd steer toward the iron one? Whatever you end up with, you will make it look amazing :)
ReplyDeleteI do love that Wayfair bed, but do not like that price at all. And yes, the iron bed would be much easier to get the look I want for our guests and for this room. I agree about the coordination of those fabrics and I like to change out bedding. I think my options would be limited if I had an upholstered bed! Thank you so much! Hugs!!
DeleteHey, I love the bed head look - total comfort, but I gotta say I'm with Brenda if you go with a 2nd guest room. Get a second-hand (Craigslist, antique mall, estate sale, yard sale) bed. You could even cover it with batting and linen (or drop cloths) and have it looking like the Wayfair example pretty easily, cheaply, and guilt-free, even if you goof. It's got fairly straight lines so all you need is a staple gun and steady hand. I'm with running, ducking and hiding's idea of a place for hubster if you decide you really don't need a 2nd guest room. Having a 2nd guest room just means more people want to come and stay and dirty your house up. Yuk.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been looking on Craigslist and haven’t found anything that I really like, but am still looking. There are a couple times a year when we need two guest bedrooms, but I posted about our Plan B, which is a sleeper sofa so that the hubster could sit and play and we would have an extra bed when we needed one. We’ve left it empty since September and I keep piling stuff in this room…LOL. I figure getting some furniture in there will stop my idea of a “catch all” space. That and the hubster would really like to get his guitars out of the floor and we don’t know which wall we will be hanging them on until I make a decision about furniture. Seems I’m always the problem…LOL
DeleteBenita...I always have to smile because we are so alike. I feel your pain and also gravitate toward the bed and bedding you are looking at. It took me from February to July to turn my daughter's room into a guest room. Since it was small we bought a full size bed frame and mattress. I love upholstered headboards---who doesn't love to sit up to read to watch TV in their sanctuary? It's frightening so some to not be able to touch/feel fabric but I took a leap of faith and bought a gorgeous fabric headboard on Overstock. We couldn't be happier. I also love that 'greige' rumpled bedding and saved my pennies to get a duvet from Pottery Barn. Believe me, we have little to zero guests so this is more of a showroom so nothing will get worn!!
ReplyDeleteI think when we can't decide we need to give ourselves space. Maybe get the bed frame, work on some dressers, lamps or shelving, things that don't have to be matchy matchy, and search Pinterest and magazines and mark what you keep gravitating towards.
And BTW_ I still do not have curtains or a closet door in this room!!! :)

P.S. Just chose colors for the lakehouse. The paint colors I'm using a lot of are SW Alabaster and Nuance. A nice cream and very light beige. Check them out.
It is definitely a dilemma for me. My cheapness argues with the desire for something pretty…LOL I definitely do not feel bad now…I have pleasant company in the waiting area! The fact that it is a large purchase and that I’m always looking for a great sale price keep me from making decisions about these things. I know that I will keep whatever furniture we end up with for quite some time, so I want to make sure it is the right thing. I’ve never had an upholstered headboard, so the cleaning factor plays in strongly for me also. Pinterest has definitely been a go to for me to get some fresh ideas. I’ve been searching Craigslist and keeping my eye out for online sales, hoping that the perfect item will jump out at me and it will be in the right price range. :-)
DeleteI’ve seen that Alabaster color and love it. I will check out the Nuance…can’t wait to see how these look at your lakehouse! :-) Hugs sweet friend!!
what is a guest room?
ReplyDeletei have forgotten.
LOLOL!!!
i don't relate to a single issue in this post.
but i love your spirit and humour and approach!
so i will watch happily as it all unfolds in dramatic splendor! XOXO♥
If our family didn't live out of state we wouldn't have this problem either...we would have a 2 bedroom house...our bedroom and a something else room...LOL Thank you so much! I'm glad you are following along! Love and hugs to you!! :-)
Delete... can't wait to see what it eventually turns out like ... brilliant I'm sure
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thank you so much Jan...right now, I'm not sure....I'm just floating around in space trying to find what works at a price I like! :-) Hugs!!
DeleteLove the looks! I think you could find a great bed on Craigslist and then just paint it and then you wouldn't have to worry about the commitment to it!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Craigslist has been a black hole since we moved to Nashville. I have not found much of anything I liked out here, but always find great things in the Dallas area...LOL...Just my luck!
DeleteBenita,
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I can not leave a comment on my iPad to you... so I'm on my Mac Pro. First up OMGosh I love the description of "bed-head". "Squishy, messy and cozy" applies to my bedding, especially in Winter. I love the look of a shaken goose down in a duvet cover gently tossed on the bed. Inviting, flirting with you to dive in and snuggle with a good book.
I understand your uncertainty, you'll feel it that until you discover the "one". Full size HMMMM, I see great vintage, antique choices out there for you to find something gorgeous. If its a double the side rails can be adjusted with a modification to fit a full size mattress.
I think about your bedrooms stunning "naked" not upholstered French chair and wonder if a consignment shop when approached with photos would give you first dibs on what they take in for resale.
I know many luck out on Craig's list. I have never but friends find the most amazing furniture on it. Benita your wall to wall carpet can always have a area rug layered on top to accent your bed /bedding choice.
So have fun seeking the amazing "one" you'll discover it soon.
xoxo,
Vera
Vera, my husband has the same problem. And he is on PCs. He can leave a comment from his desktop, but cannot leave one from his laptop. Bizarre indeed.
DeleteThank you so much and YES, that is definitely what I envision…a very appropriate description….I love that…”inviting and flirting”!
I have had hit or miss with Craigslist in the past, but definitely all misses since moving to the Nashville area. I do really love the iron bed and think it would be perfect and more versatile to work with. We have been looking in flea markets and thrift stores, but no scores yet. I haven’t thought about a consignment shop, but will definitely give those a try.
Thank you so much Vera and I do feel the “one” is out there…just waiting for me to stumble across it! :-)
Love and hugs!
Love this post...oops, there's that word "love." I can certainly appreciate wanting to make a good decision the first time because of the investment a bed requires. And then of course, it doesn't just stop with the bed...there's the gorgeous bedding you're looking at and on and on...
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what all you come up with for your guest room!!
Mary Alice
Mary Alice, thank you so much! And you are so right...the decisions never end with a piece of furniture, there is everything else that goes with it! If it were only as simple as one piece of furniture. :-) Hugs!!
Delete:-)) You make me smile! I am excited to see what you do, I know it will be AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteCarla
Thank you so much Carla! I do appreciate your confidence in me…I’m doubting myself right now…LOL I just need to throw a dart and hit something and hope it works! LOL
DeleteHi Benita,
ReplyDeleteIt is a big decision and I know that whatever you pick will be beautiful!
I did like Brenda's idea about searching Craigslist...you may find something that way that is just as beautiful as your inspiration photo but a lot cheaper!
Hope you are having an amazing weekend!
Hugs, Kimberley
Thank you so much Kimberley! I have searched Craigslist in this area and there doesn't seem to be a lot on the table for sale right now. I have looked in Dallas and found several things I like...the problem...they are in Dallas and I am in Nashville....LOL The price is definitely the big holdup for me...I want what I want at my price...LOL I hope you had a great weekend...I painted that bathroom...finally...YAY! Hugs to you sweet friend!!
DeleteSometimes just finding that starting point is the really frustrating part. I am a big fan of Craigslist but I know every area is different. If your patient until you see what you want, you can get some amazing deals.
ReplyDeleteI love Craigslist and have been perusing. The bed in our other guest bedroom was a Craigslist purchase and we love it. But that was when we were in Dallas. I haven't found as much of a selection of things I like on Craigslist here in Nashville. But, since I am trying to be very patient (I have until April), I'm hoping something in a price range I'm willing to pay will turn up. Thanks so much Rachel! Hugs!!
DeleteBenita,
ReplyDeleteThe bed from Wayfair is just beautiful. It took me years and years (maybe 15) before I bought the French Country sleigh bed (headboard and footboard) of my dreams. Finally, one went on sale at a local furniture store, and I paid for it in monthly installments with 0% interest. I've never regretted that purchase. One thing kept from going with fabric headboards... how easy it is to damage them from either a stain or a tear.
Good luck with this One-Room Challenge. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.
Judith
Thank you so much Judith! If the price weren’t so high, I would be able to make my decision quicker. The price is my hang-up and I would like something a little more budget friendly for the guest room. If it were our bedroom, I would be opting for your plan. And the thing that kept you from purchasing a fabric headboard is the holdback for me…I’m very concerned about tears since we move frequently. Thank you again so much! I’m still on the lookout and hopefully by April will be able to nail this down and move on! :-)
DeleteSecond-hand bed with the bed head look. I am surprised at the commenters who suggested buying a head board and covering it yourself. Obviously they do not know the history of previous projects. We have a SINGLE bed in our guest room to limit guests to one at a time. Works great!
ReplyDeleteLOL...Maybe I should have started this post referencing some of my other disastrous projects, then that suggestion would definitely be off the table...LOL The hubster suggested several wire milk crates with cheesecloth draped across them. I asked him if he had seen the cost of wire milk crates lately...they are as expensive as the bed! :-)
DeleteWow great post. Thank you for sharing this information.
