It's Been One Week....

....since my last blog post!  A lot has happened since then!  We had to travel for business, once again, and I'm playing catch up on writing and reading.

But isn't it always that way!  And of course, I had to share a song, because it's been "one week"! :-)  And no, I have no idea what this song means....the only words I seem to pick up on are "Chinese Chicken"...don't ask me why.

After my last post, one week ago, we had a snow storm, as did most of the eastern United States.

Now I know that's not a big deal for my friends who live up North, but here in the South, it's a really, really big deal.  Eight inches for the Nashville area.  You know what that means?  Life stops!  It comes to a screeching, grinding halt!  Why?  Because we always seem to get a layer of ice before the snowfall.

Snow is not the problem, the ice is the problem.  The salt trucks even had trouble staying on the roads.  Those things were slipping and sliding everywhere.  The hubster has a 4-wheel drive, but when ice is around, we steer clear of trying to get out.  So (just for you Edward), we stayed in and worked.  This was my office for the day....

I also caught up on some reading....

...and cleaned the house a little...but not too much, after all, it was a "snow day".

For lunch/dinner, I made what I call "Snow-Day Chili".

I didn't have all of the supplies I needed for my regular chili, so I had to make do with what I had.  I will share the recipe tomorrow!

I hope you all have been having a great week and that if you were in the snow storm, that you are safe and warm!  Our snow is gone, but I'm hoping for more before too long.  Everyone thought I was nuts because I wanted to listen to Christmas Carols and watch Christmas movies on our snow day...they do go with snow, right??!!

  1. Hi Benita, we still have snow piled high on sidewalks, but our roads got cleared by Monday for the most part (lucky for us, there was no ice at the storm onset, only black ice now with freeze/thaw). Schools just resumed today in our county (as for carols, parents were blaring, "It's the most wonderful time of the year"). I still can't get into my yard without snow crawling down my boots, but that's ok. It's an excuse, really. I don't want to be in the yard just yet. But winter can leave anytime.

    1. Hello Rita! Hope you've been well!

See, I love snow but don't like to see it after it gets dirty and piled high everywhere by the snow plows. That black ice is sometimes worse than the ice that falls before the snow. Nashville area schools were out most of last week. We've had a warm up and then at the end of next week, temps plummet again...craziness! I'm with you, I'm not ready for yard work and flower planting. And I don't mind winter hanging around a bit longer! :-) Hope you have had a great week! Hugs!

  2. Yikes. Ice before snow is a dangerous combo. We were lucky, got about 26 inches, but it was all snow...and yes, the idea of Christmas carols on a snow day is absolutely normal! At least I think so! :)

    1. 26 inches??!! Pure heaven! The most I’ve ever seen is 18 inches and that was in March of 1993 when the worst snow storm ever hit Birmingham. I’ve seen the photos of the snow up north. I can’t imagine opening the door and seeing nothing but a snow wall…LOL It all sounds perfectly normal to me…Christmas carols, Christmas movies, hot chocolate, snow…yep, it works! :-) Stay warm up there!!

  3. Ahhhhhhh, that ice! It's a real show-stopper. In any part of the country.

But you got through "The Week" and are back, to post about it!!! A celebration is due hu? :-))) Some weeks are like that.

    Gentle hugs....

  4. I like the way you think, sweet Benita-not too much cleaning because it was a snow day!
That is how I'm feeling today-it is too pretty outside to stay inside and clean:)
You know in North Texas we have to make the most of our mild weather, because July brings Firecracker hot weather and then we hunker inside...
    Stay cozy sweet friend!

    1. Exactly! The house-cleaning will always be there…the snow won’t!  OMGosh, don’t I know it. There is no outside time in Texas once summer arrives…everyone just melts when they go out! LOL. Hope you are enjoying your beautiful day outside! Summer will hit about mid-March, so there aren’t many of the nice days left! :-) Love and hugs sweet friend!

  5. please tell me he wasn't ON THE ROOF clearing that dish.
and i know what you're saying...
ALWAYS here we have to get the proverbial inch of ICE first in the form of hours of freezing rain. at least with snow only... you get a little traction!
dewena said it's enough to maybe not melt until JULY!!! LOLOL!
i'm having chili today here too. YUM.
see ya in the trenches! XXOXOXO♥

    1. LOL...no ma'am, I wouldn't let him on the roof...but he's so sweet, he probably would have gone! :-) Yep, ice comes first...then snow...sort of like kissing and marriage...can't get one without the other! ;-) LOL@Dewena...she's right if it doesn't warm up. She said they still had ice and snow, but ours is long gone. And it is supposed to be in the 60s this weekend, so it may finish hers off. But another round is surely around the corner! Isn't chili just one of those wonderful foods that just makes you feel good?! And do you wrap the leftovers in "saran wrap"?!!?? LOL..I just love that story!! Love and hugs to you sweet friend!!

  6. I like your office for the day, Benita - it looks a lot like mine on any given day!! My chair by the fire, my laptop, and a bold little dog trying to get my attention! Welcome back, sweet Benita! xo

    1. Aww, thank you so much! I miss everyone when I’m way, but when we travel, it is almost impossible to get everything done. I love sitting by the fire with my laptop…just plopped right there in the floor…with my popcorn and Mt. Dew! :-) Hope you are having a great week! Hugs!!

  7. Even though we northern's are used to the white stuff if ice comes first it is always a nightmare no matter where you live. Glad you were safe and cozy inside. I like your office space!!! Have a great rest of the week. Moving today and closing tomorrow on Junk Chic Cottage ;( I cannot wait for this to all be over soon. Hugs.

    1. That ice is so scary and treacherous because there is absolutely no control when it is on the ground! The hubster just about froze to death when he was up your way a couple of weeks ago. He said he didn't know how you all stood it being so cold. He refused to leave the hotel...LOL. Good luck on closing and moving this weekend! Thinking about and praying for you both! Love and hugs to you!!

  10. It must be fun to have snow when you usually don't get it. We are usually complaining by now of all the snow but not this year. It is kinda sad not to have it in the winter. I hope there are no plans by Mother Nature to deliver it to us in May!!

    1. LOL...we have had snow in April before...waaayyy back in the 80s. It was freezing cold that morning and snowed all morning...about 5 or 6 inches. By the afternoon it was 75 degrees...the snow immediately melted. It was weird. We do love getting snow down here since it doesn't happen often!

  11. Glad you are back, Benita! I understand just how dangerous that ice can be. You really know how to "do" a snow day ;) They are predicting 3-5" for us next Tuesday. Unlike you, I am crossing my fingers that it misses us...I'll try to send it your way!

Thank you….we found that set at Pier 1 a few years ago and I still love it! Hugs!!

  14. Snow is beautiful. Ice, not so much :(. A four-wheel drive is great to have, but as you know nothing can navigate ice safely, so it's best you stayed home.

Chili is so forgiving, so it's a fabulous dish to pull together for cold, snowy days. Now I'm hungry lol.

  15. You made the best of a bad situation, Benita--I like when people take advantage of a bad situation. The chili looks good! Ice is scary...I love a good snow day but I really worry for those who have to drive in it.

Love, love how you work on the hearth...good going girl!

    1. LOL...it was definitely rough going....I was suffering...can't you tell??!! LOL Thank you so much! I hate ice and am glad we stayed in. Unfortunately, we had to leave that Sunday to drive to Tampa...lots of snow and ice on the ground and 9 degrees. We were bundled up like bears when we reached Florida and their 70 degree temps...LOL Hugs sweet friend!

  17. Hi Benita,
Love that Bare Naked Ladies song...have no idea what the lyrics mean either, but still love it! Maybe that was in the lead singers drug induced days?!
You guys got quite a bit of snow! The photo of Edward cleaning off the satellite almost looked like you guys live in Alaska and not Nashville! ;)
And I think snow and Christmas go hand in hand...that's why some of my outside white lights are still up because they look so pretty with the snow! Well, that's my excuse anyways!
Have a wonderful weekend and stay safe next week, I hear there is another storm brewing! Big Hugs!!

    1. Hello chick! I love the Bare Naked Ladies…so alternative…LOL The hubster tried to convince me it was something “bad”, but I’m like read them…there is nothing bad in that song…just jibberish…LOL LOL @ Alaska….one place you would never find me…even though I love cold weather. I still have my Christmas wallflowers in the sockets. I keep telling myself Christmas will be back around before too long and I won’t have to change them out! I think these are all viable excuses…snow, cold, Christmas décor…they just work well together, don’t they??!! :-) Hugs sweet friend…hope you are doing well. I’m wishing for some more of the white stuff, but none is currently forecasted!!
