Traveling Treasures....

I just realized as I was searching for something, okay anything, to write about, that I had neglected to share some photos of the treasures I found while traveling in the New England area.

Most of these items were found at a little flea market near Boothbay Harbor, ME.  The vendors set up on the side of the road each weekend.  It was a treasure trove and it was all I could do not to buy a little bit of everything from each booth.  But I restrained myself...or rather, the hubster restrained me.

So, before I pack these things in a box and forget about them until Christmas (when I discover some lonely box tucked in a corner that I forgot to unpack from the move), let's see what I found....

....blue bottles!  Why did I purchase these?  I have no idea.  I do not have one single blue thing in my house and never use blue in decorating...oh wait, I do have that little blue VW bug sitting on my steps for the summer...but these have nothing to do with that.  I thought I would use them as vases for the summer, but summer will be over by the time we move and get settled and I'm not holding up that fall decor for one single second!  Much less for the use of a blue bottle!

Aren't these adorable!?!  I loved the detail cut into the glass and their little silver heads are so pointy!

Okay, so are you really going to act surprised that I picked up a piece of silver?  I actually picked up several, but I couldn't get a good photo....too reflect-y.....and you really didn't want to see me in my pink pajamas!

If you head back up to the photo of the blue bottles, you will see a packet of Alder Smoked Sea Salt.  I picked this up in Salem, MA to ward off ghosts and witches while we were visiting.  Now you really don't believe that do you?  ;-)  This salt is amazing and flavors any dish wonderfully!  Sometimes I open the packet just to take a big whiff because it smells so good.  The hubster says there has got to be some law against smelling salts....get it...smelling salts...or is that sauce...oh well...

Very prudent! ,-) That is, if you really wanted to ward them off.

Me, I try to make contact. In a very, very old restaurant, in town. Where a ghost is said to have been seen..... But I couldn't get "The Lady In Green" to say hello. -pout-

    1. I know they exist and while it might be fascinating to make contact, I would humiliate myself by wetting my pants...LOL I'm so sorry The Lady in Green" wouldn't say hello. Maybe she was having a bad day....wait, she's dead, of course it's a bad day! :-) Unless she is a fun ghost! I kept thinking we would see several while we were in Gettysburg since it is a very haunted place, but none were seen. :-( Hugs!!!

  2. We traveled through parts of New England and Canada last year - wish there had been flea markets during our time. I don't use blue in my decor either, and it seems to be everywhere BUT my home. You could stick an orange leaf/stem in the blue bottle for a cute little fall display on a windowsill or something, I suppose, to make them feel loved.....

    1. We only passed a few…I would love to have seen more though. It was June, but their temps were in the 50’s…heaven in my book! :-) Maybe they don’t really crank up until July or August because of the milder weather. I like blue, I don’t know why I don’t have anything in my décor. That sounds pretty and fall-ish….thank you ma’am! And would look really cute in the kitchen window! See, this is why I love blogging…getting tips and ideas from friends! :-)

  3. Love your treasures! I would have gotten those blue bottles to match my kitchen. I have been collecting green ones though for some reason. I am in New England right now....Massachusetts......and I have not found one single treasure! I thought I'd be stopping at thrift stores and flea markets everywhere.....nope!

    1. Then I won't tell you how much they cost...but it rhymes with schmoller....LOL Everything was at a wonderful price...even the silver. The guy had a box full with a label that said $2.00 each. There was a free-for-all over that box! That is crazy that they don't have anything....honey, come on down south and you will go back with a truck full! :-)

  4. I would get several packets of the salt, make a necklace to wear around my neck while there 'cause....
I'm scared someday I really WILL see a ghost. LOL....not really, because I don't believe in them...I do, however feel strongly in angels ....

    1. Salem was a strange place with a strange vibe. Very commercialized, which surprised me. The spice store where I bought this spice was amazing…so many wonderful, unusual spices. I’m afraid I will see one also and would probably faint dead away….LOL I fully believe in angels also….too much proof out there not to!

    1. I'm glad I was able to bring a few things home also. There were some pieces of furniture I would have loved to grab up, but no room to bring it back. I also found a wonderful vintage watering can, but I didn't take a photo of it. Those little salt shakers are my favorites...and thank you ma'am! Have a wonderful day Kris!!

    1. ;-P You and the hubster....LOL Thank you ma'am....I really liked the color and shape of the bottles. I don't know why I've never really used blue...it is beautiful and you are right, has such energy. Rita suggested an orange leaf stem for the fall..which would be really pretty.

    1. I'm the same way Stephanie. I find that I usually pick up a set wherever I go. They will soon be spilling out of the cabinets and everyone will know about my secret stash...LOL

  10. Love your treasures, they are beautiful, Benita! Those bottles, my favorite color, and those shakers are absolutely lovely! Thanks for the giggle and the smile! I've done that a couple of times with reflections (smile), salt, really to ward off ghosts. I'll remember that and tell my kids that on Halloween, love to see their reaction. Give 'em a salt shaker when we go trick or treating! (giggle) jk Have a fun day!

    1. Thanks so much Christine...they are just little things but make me smile! :-) Hey, didn't you watch Hocus Pocus? Salt definitely keeps witches away! Everyone should carry it around on Halloween!! ;-) Each child should receive a container...maybe that's what I will hand out at Halloween instead of candy....the poor little kiddos will be disappointed for sure! LOL Hugs!!

  12. Benita, I have a "thing" for glass, too. Maybe we are some kind of magpies or something. I like Rita's idea of the orange in the bottles for fall!

    1. Julie, I've been collecting as much glass as I have silver. :-) It is definitely something for sure and I think the hubster would agree about the magpie...LOL. I agree, Rita's idea was spot on and perfect for fall!

  13. Benita,
I love collecting salt and pepper shakers too-I have several sets, tucked away in boxes, in a storage facility that I feel like I will never see again. Feeling a little bitter today with the heat and the home building going so slow. Well, I love your treasures!

    1. Thanks so much Jemma! I really need to go through mine and pass them on to someone else. It has become a small obsession. :-) I do hate the house building is going so slowly, which surprises me for Texas....frustrating for sure! In TN, the schedule is 6 months, but we know it is always longer. Hugs!

  14. Love those blue bottles. Every Southern girl should know to have a bottle tree in the backyard with blue bottles hanging on it to scare away the haints! We had an old man ghost in our first house, but he was very calm except for occasionally turning on the TV in the middle of the night. Our dog would follow the ghost around. No kidding!

    1. Thank you ma’am! Back in Alabama, we had a bottle tree. I loved it! Edward’s dad has a bottle tree at their hunting camp in Alabama. He has collected all Jack Daniels bottles for his tree….LOL. That is pretty darn cool about the ghost. Since the dog knew where he was and followed him around, were you ever able to see him?

  15. Good morning, lovely :)

I buy things like the blue bottles and wonder the same thing after I get them home. I have no idea what to do with it, but I had to have it at the time lol They are pretty bottles though and I'm sure you'll come up with something.

I've had two houses with ghosts, so I could have used that salt ;)

    1. Good morning chick!! I'm so glad that someone out there shares my problem...Edward calls my little deals like this "a reactive purchase"....see it, buy it, with no thought or plan behind it..LOL. Pfft on him...LOL

That is so cool! Friendly? What all did they do to let you know they were there? I loved Donna's comment about her dog following the ghost around! I've never lived with a ghost. Hugs!!

  16. Boothbay Harbor...you lucky duck! I love Maine...it reminds me of my home (Nova Scotia), the visual and the people are very similar! And they have some amazing antique shopping there, lots of history in Maine!
That's funny that you bought the blue bottles when you don't have any blue...you could use them in your 'new' screen room! ;)
I love the salt and pepper shakers and the gravy boat...would have liked to have seen the rest of the silver too...even if your pink pj's were in a photo...come on...we're all girls here! ;)
OMG...all this ghost talk...la la la la la la...puppies and kittens...puppies and kittens!

    1. Omgosh…that’s right about the ghost talk…I’m so sorry! I remember one of your posts about not liking scary things!

I would live right in that hotel in Boothbay Harbor if they would let me. It was so gorgeous and the weather was wonderful and the people were so very nice, even the other tourists. And life was slow and easy and relaxing! The food was awesome! Everything was just so lovely and yes, the few antique stores and flea markets we ran across had so many treasures at great prices. I know, it was a crazy purchase, but I have 3 of them and will either group them or split them up….I will be able to decide when we move. The house will tell me right where they need to go! :-) ummm, yeah, me in the PJs….not a good visual…LOL

  17. There has got to be somewhere in your new house that those blue bottles will be perfect! Don't you forget about them, blue is so pretty as an accent with so many other colors.

    1. I do like the suggestions I've received. I've already got them in a box to move and I'm one of those weirdos who writes the contents on the outside of the box so that I won't miss anything. The color blue was just too pretty to let go by, so I will definitely be finding a special place for them. :-)
