I Found This...

....in a place I wasn't supposed to be.  I have a bad habit of trespassing...not to do bad things, but to get a shot that I want or to see something that someone says I'm not allowed to see.  I don't know why I do these things.  My mother said I was a rebellious child.  My uncle said that one time he stopped by to visit and I was swinging on the door handle kicking at my mother...I was 3.  I got a spanking. :-)

I found this picture when I stopped to take photos of a house that had burned.  As you can see, someone had stepped on her.  So I picked her up off the floor and propped her on the heater.  This picture was amazing to me because everything in the house had some level of burn, except her...I was in awe and had to take this shot.  So now, I'm sharing her with you.

Isn't she beautiful?

  1. I can't believe it was not burned. Perhaps there was a reason, maybe she was meant to be photographed and shared.

    1. I was stunned that she was untouched. I almost took her with me but decided to leave her there in case her family came back looking for her! And it could very well be! :-)

    1. It was bizarre indeed...she was just gorgeous! She reminded me of those women you used to see photos of during WWII.

  5. Did it seem the picture was in a frame at the time of the fire? If so that may explain why she came through unscathed as glass does not burn - it will melt if held at high heat for a long time. You can start a campfire with pieces of glass reflected in the sun but glass does not burn. The previous old house on the farm I live at now had burned to the ground and while gardening I find pieces of glass like from jars that had exploded in the fire. If no sign of a glass frame for that pic then that is freaky! What did it say on the picture?

    1. I didn't find any remnants of a frame...she was just laying in the middle of the floor. In the upper right hand corner, it says "Korea, 1956". In the lower right hand corner, it says "Dorothy Dunkins, Love always, Johnny"....so sweet!!

  6. This might be her: http://death-records.mooseroots.com/l/147514019/Dorothy-P-Dunkins

If anyone has a Family Tree Account, they might be able to find her relatives and tell them about the painting. I used to have one, but that was back before you had to pay so much for it.

    1. That is so cool that you found that...thank you!! I'm going to presume it was a relative's house that burned. Most definitely...that is a cool site!! Hugs!!

  7. She is lovely, Benita, and it was lovely of you to care and be touched and want to save this charming portrait.

I do hope it gets to someone who cares too. Your photograph of her in the midst of destruction is quite poignant.

  8. I imagine a sailor on leave in Korea. Sees the portrait artist on the street and has his girlfriend's photo hand painted. Sends home the painting with the sweet "love always" on it. Always even means through a fire. Love is everlasting.

  9. Oh, I hope someone finds her! It is obviously vintage and could be a long lost, or a forever love of some sad guy!

    1. I know! It could be and it upset me that some careless person stepped on her. She needs to be back with her love!

  10. Ok, that gave me chill's !! I have to say I would of been tempted to take her, I'd hate to see her lay there and become trash. But then again , I'd think she was haunted because she didn't burn ....??!! Sad. Thank's for sharing :)) Hug's TT

    1. I was very tempted to remove her, but then I thought someone might come looking specifically for this picture and maybe someone saw me skulking around and then I would be arrested for trespassing and stealing private property...LOL So I left her for the family to come take. I would like to think they did and gave her a proper home again! Hugs!!
