Small Plans, Big Changes...

Like everyone, I have a working list of changes I want to make around our home for the coming year.
Usually, when I tell the hubster about changes I would like to make to our home, I stand on the other side of the room.  And I usually make a big production out of telling him that I have something awful to discuss and that I should just go ahead and get it over with so that he can worry about the thing I'm going to discuss with him.  See, I lead up to something bad so that when I tell him my idea, he accepts it because it isn't the bad thing he thought I was going to tell him. :-) After I tell him my plans, it usually ends up sounding like a conversation between Lucy and Ricky and I usually have some 'splainin' to do!

My list for 2019 looks a little like this...
  • Change mirror in small upstairs bathroom (done)
  • Change lights in kitchen (done)
  • Find and order dining area rug (UGH...I will never find a funky-sized rug)
  • Remove cabinet over master bathroom commode, install shelving
  • Install board and batten in TV sitting area (done, well mostly done)
  • Install board and batten on back wall of master bedroom
  • Decide on adding board and batten to other walls in TV sitting area
  • Paint a few doors (have paint, will paint - decide which doors)
  • New flooring for TV sitting area
  • Improve look of master bathroom (what to do, what to do)
  • Paint stairs, maybe paint banisters

...and so it goes.  Some of these things I can do myself, some I will need the hubster's assistance.  The changing of the lights requires his help.  I refuse to touch anything in those electrical boxes...I don't care how many YouTube videos I've watched on how to do it, I just refuse.  Thankfully, the hubster knows how and is willing...that's all it takes.

A couple of weekends ago, I picked out new lighting for the kitchen area.  We had this pretty farmhouse light above the island...
...and now we have this more modern light.  The hubster was kind enough to replace this light and the other 2 kitchen lights while we were in the middle of another project.
I'm digging the new look so far.

Before...
After...
I don't know about you, but I like ticking things off my project checklist!  And no, we did not/will not change the light over the dining table.

What changes are you planning on making to your home for the coming year?

    1. Thank you so much! That is on our list also…redoing our flower beds outside. Since my list was growing longer, I decided I would keep it to things on the inside…I don’t even want to think about what all we need to do outside. 😊 Hugs!

    1. Thank you so much! It works better this way...when they realize they aren't in major trouble for something, then the other job is easier to swallow...LOL Love and hugs to you! :-)

  4. Ohhhhh what a difference the new lights make. I love how they look. Good eye sweet friend to change out to these. I hope to get a few inside projects done in the next month so when Spring arrives if it ever arrives here I can start to think about the outside. Looking forward to March and hopefully in the next few weeks we begin to warm up and think Spring!!! Hugs.

    1. Thank you so much Kris! We do like them much better. They did change the look of the kitchen. Since Punxsutawney Phil said spring would come early, hopefully it won’t be too far off for you guys. The cold weather has made it’s way down here again, so we have freezing temps today and over the weekend. Possibility of snow on Monday. I’m not holding my breath though…LOL Love and hugs to you sweet friend!

  5. I love the old light but have to admit that the new ones look nicer with the more sophisticated look you have there. I laughed at how you approach these discussions! Are we conniving or what? But after 50 something years I've definitely learned to wait for the right time, which is never at the end of the day. And Edward, if you're reading this post of your darling wife, plug your ears, or I should say cover your eyes!

    1. Thank you so much, they did change the look of the kitchen. We liked the old one as well but felt these just worked better for us. You are exactly right, wait for the right time! :-) I think Edward knows exactly how it works, men just need some coaxing and sweet talk...and a good meal never hurts either! ;-) Love and hugs to you sweet friend!

  6. Those lights are perfect, Benita! It seems there's always a list, isn't there? I really need to touch up some trim paint this year - it's been 4 years this spring since I moved in and the whole house was painted, and it's starting to look worn in places....especially where I bang into it with the vacuum!!!

    1. Thank you so much! HA! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who does that. We've lived here 2 years and not only do I have wall bangs, I have black marks where I run into the baseboards with the wheels...LOL Why does something as simple as vacuuming have to be so complicated?! :-) Love and hugs sweet friend!

    1. Thank you, we liked the farmhouse lights but like the new ones as well, just offers a different look. Yes, it is an ambitious list. The good thing is that we have a year to try to get it all done. I didn't even go into the things that need to be done outside...that is a list for another day. :-) Love and hugs!

  8. I love the new lights. You made me laugh at how you splane things to the husband so you can get them done. Genius! haha.
I have a list too but when I bring it up to my hubby, He gets defensive, and starts talking about time and money. So I guess I'll keep the ugly look until its HIS idea.

    1. Thank you so much! I have to make him see my side...and that takes a lot of work...LOL And therein lies the crux...convincing them that it is THEIR idea! HA! Have a great one! Hugs!

  11. I just love the farmhouse light THAT YOU REMOVED (!) but I have to admit that your new lights look Fab-U-Lous!! I have a thing about matching stuff and they both work great with your dining table light. The board and battan is also fabulous. Looking good! Do you know how blessed you are that you have a hubby that can do that stuff? Just sayin' :-)

    1. Thank you so much AnnMarie! We did love that pendant light but needed something that was a little more of our style. I do like the light fixtures in a room to match or at least be similar and the ones that were there were total opposites. LOL Thank you also on the board and batten. And yes, I am very blessed to have a wonderful hubster who can and will do these projects! Love and hugs sweet friend!

  12. Everything looks wonderful! I L-O-V-E those lights. Our next project is to replace ALL the windows in our house...and we have a LOT...cha-ching!!!! It's a project I don't look forward to and sure don't look forward to paying for it!!!!

    1. Thank you so much Cheri! We do love the new lighting. WOW, that will be a major undertaking and you are right, expensive!! I don't blame you one single bit. Replacing windows makes me nervous because you just never know what else you are going to open up and how newer windows fit into previously built homes...so much has changed even in the last 10 years! Have a great day! Hugs!

    1. Hello lady! Thank you so much! We did like the previous lights but wanted something a little more modern that fit with our style. I did go, was freezing cold and I didn't buy a single thing...LOL...except donut holes! Did you go? Love and hugs!

  14. I like the new lights.
Most of my projects are outside this season. My first will be to landscape around my greenhouse we built in late October. I am excited for that project.

  15. Oh Benita, my list is so long! We have an addition coming out back which will be done by contractors, which is mostly one new single car garage, enclose the staircase to the apartment above our garage and add a covered screen porch. Inside we need to do a TOTAL re-do of our master bathroom, and build in closets in this odd room off of our bedroom. I do love crossing things off my list!

    1. Bless your heart...you do have a list and those are some MAJOR tasks! Redoing bathrooms and kitchens are so much work and you never know what you are going to get into once you start. And one thing begets another...LOL Can't wait to see it all though, I know it will be so pretty...I always love looking at new bathroom designs! Hugs!
