For The Love of a Door...

If you recall, I mentioned that when we bought this house there were things we loved and things we didn't love.  The back door was one of those things we didn't love.  It's not that it was a bad door, it just didn't fit the image of a "cottage-style" house to me.  Also, it had paint smears and clumps of caulking all over it and those couldn't be removed without ruining the paint.  Aaannnddd, I didn't know if I wanted to get into trying to sand/re-paint a fiberglass door that I really didn't care for.  Sorry old back door, it wasn't you, it was me.  Okay, honestly, it was you!

After a few months of deliberation about what type of door I wanted, I finally pulled the trigger and asked the hubster to take me to purchase the new door.  He's the one with the truck and the muscles, so it only made sense that I took him along for the ride.

I feel the need to stop right here and share something with you.  If you post a photo of your new back door on Instagram, do not use #backdoor or #backdoorlove...you will be taken down a road you do not want to go...just trust me on this!

Now, back to business...the previous back door...

...was part window with panes, part door...the standard contractor's door.  Nothing really wrong with it, just not my style.

I thought I wanted one that sort of matched the front door which is primarily a large glass window.  But once I saw this little cottage-style beauty...

...the decision was made.

We hired some professionals to install it.

The hubster has been really busy with work and just didn't have time to commit to the install.  These guys did a fabulous job and cleaned up all the mess.  There was very little for me to do after they left.

I thought at first that I would paint it white.  I kicked that idea to the curb because we really needed some color on this side of the house...something to break up all those white walls.  So, I pulled out that pretty Tricorn Black and went to work.  Once again, we had to sleep with a sheet hanging over the door opening.  This time the hubster was home.  He wasn't any happier about it, but whatcha gonna do?!?  The door has to be painted and has to dry before it can be put back in place!  Thankfully we had a warm spell and it was only down overnight.

I cannot tell you how much I love the look of this door!  The door fits the style of our home so much better and breaking up that white made a huge difference in the back of our home!  Who knew that changing out a door could make such a positive impact!

    1. Thank you so much! We like it so much better! Honey, I was so embarrassed! Thankfully I didn't receive any comments and it didn't occur to me at first about the hashtag. Then, after a couple of minutes after posting, I decided I better take a look at the other back door posts...I immediately removed the hashtag...LOL. There were some doors, but I didn't want mine to be included...LOL Lessons are hard-learned on Instagram...LOL Love and hugs!

    1. Thank you so much! We love it also and feel it made such a huge difference! The Tricorn color is so awesome! After painting our front door with it, I decided to trim around the garage door and front porch window with it to add some additional color to the front of the house. Yeah, that Instagram thing was a mess...LOL Love and hugs!

  5. Benita, I love your door! The color is perfect, but I'm wondering why you didn't paint the door a few days before you had the guys hang it?

    1. Thank you so much! We love the door style and the color turned out great! Edward was traveling and I had a narrow window to get it installed with the door guy. I had to have it installed while he was away and then have him remove it so I could paint it. It was cold when he left so I couldn't paint it in the garage prior to the install. Thankfully it warmed up a couple of days so I could get it painted when he got back. It was a week of craziness...LOL Love and hugs!

    1. Thank you so much! And yes, definitely much safer. I like the windows being higher on the door. When the yard guys would come, they could look in the old door and see into our bedroom or the kitchen and that freaked me out. I hope you have a great weekend too sweet friend! Love you and miss your posts!! ❤

    1. AnnMarie, thank you so much! Those little windows were part of the selling point for this door. I love the Tricorn black, it is not too dark and when the light hits it, it changes colors. I know during part of the day, it will look like a slate blue color. And it is long lasting...you just can beat Sherwin Williams paint. I love this color in your bathroom, it looks so pretty and made everything in there just pop! Missing your posts! Love and hugs!

    1. Thank you so much Donna! Yes, it is much safer and fits much better. I love these doors and we may be getting one just like it for the front of the house. The all glass door makes Edward a little nervous and it doesn’t hang properly. I got them to check it out while they were there and he said it would be easy to change. I like easy! 😊 Hope you have a great weekend! Love and hugs!

  16. I do love your new door! And the new paint color but oh you two with sleeping with plastic covered doors. We knew a couple once who never locked their doors. They felt it showed a lack of faith in God's protection to do so. I'm sorry but I feel that God expects us to use the good brains he gave us!

    1. Thank you so much! We do love it and think the door looks much better than the one we had before. Nothing wrong with the old door, just not as suited to the house as the new door! I agree, I think God gave us brains and expects us to use them...LOL Thankfully, we have a fence around the back of our house and the entrance gate is secured. It was still a little freaky! Love and hugs to you sweet friend! I hope you and your family have a wonderfully blessed Christmas and New Year!
