A Thanksgiving Table...

I love a table laid out with lots of bling!  I also love a table that is dressed plain and simple.  It usually just depends on my mood.

Normally, I stay neutral with my table decorations and just add pops of color here and there.  This year, I changed it up a bit.   Since this home is very (and I do mean VERY) neutral in its base colors, I decided to add more color to our Thanksgiving table.  I also wanted some color for our magazine shoot so that it would break up all the black, white and gray.

I found the Buffalo check plates at Michael's and decided to build around them.  Even though they were on sale, I wanted to use the plates for our Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas table....a three-fer for sure!  I don't know how table decorating works for you guys, but for some reason, I don't build it around the centerpiece, I build it around the plates.

I've had these little napkins rings forever and just love them...a Pier 1 find from years ago...again, on sale.  I'm cheap! :-)  When I saw these Harvest Gold (you peeps from the 70s know exactly the color I'm referring to) colored napkins at Target, I knew they would compliment the plates and napkin rings perfectly...and add some much needed color...two-fer!

I had the gold silverware (which makes no sense) but didn't have enough, so I pulled out the black-ish utensils to blend the table.

The centerpiece...

...all Hobby Lobby...all on sale...well, except the lantern.  It came from Kirklands...on sale and I had a "spin-the-wheel" coupon.  Is it crazy that I love to "spin-the-wheel"?  It makes me feel like I'm on The Price is Right or Wheel of Fortune...I hear the little ticks in my head while it's spinning.  LOVE that app!

Anywho...I started with some plain greenery and found some complimentary colored weird pieces to put with it.  I don't know what they are, but those yellow-ish things look like the head of a Dr. Seuss character.  I was tempted to draw eyes and a mouth on them.

I dressed the bar a little differently, but not much...

I don't know why shooting downward like this makes me dizzy!

So, there you have it...

...in living color...our Thanksgiving table!  Thought you'd never see that in this house, right?!  I'm walking on the wild side for the holidays!

    1. Thank you so much! It is very popular. I know several stores carry the plates...Hobby Lobby, Michael's and Pier 1. Thank you...just kept piling on the pieces until it looked full! :-) Love and hugs!

  2. Benita, I do love everything about this table, and your sentiments about bling one day, plain and simple the next - the luxury of choice. It's weird, though, sometimes I'll start with a [vintage] tablecloth, other times a centerpiece, and then again, other times with plates or some other element. It's never the same inspiration for me, but it's all fun. I really like this one of yours. Three-fer makes it even better.

    1. Thank you so much Rita! I like totally different table settings…the fancy ones and the plain/simple settings are both equally pretty. They each hold a different appeal and a different mood. Two-fers and three-fers make it all even better! 😊 Thank you again! Love and hugs!

  3. Your Thanksgiving table is beautiful, Benita! And it must be great to already know how you're doing that. Do you already have your menu ready too? So organized! The buffalo plates are pretty and only yesterday I saw in an article on FB that buffalo checks are a new trend so you are so current. When I read the article I realized I have some heavy placemats in black and white buffalo check so you can be sure I'll be using them a lot this winter.

Love to you, Benita, and continuing prayers for Edward's mother's hip surgery,

    1. Thank you so much Dewena! Since I love fall so much and the put the decorations out so early, I usually get a pretty good idea of what I want to do. The hard part is making a decision on what I want to buy…so many lovely things out there. And yes ma’am, I usually have a pretty good idea on the menu. I may change out one or 2 things, but it is pretty much set. The buffalo pattern is definitely “in” this year….so yes, definitely pull them out and use them. I normally don’t follow trends, I just like what I like and accidentally fall into a trend occasionally.

Thank you so much for the prayers. It has been an ordeal for her, but she is now at home and will start her rehab this week. Rehab is the worst part I do believe! Love and hugs to you!

  5. Love your choices for your Thanksgiving table! You can't go wrong with buffalo checks...all sizes and colors. So many pretty details in your table setting! Harvest gold...now that's a blast from the past. Actually I am still using my harvest gold Tupperware measuring cups. Hope Edward's mom gets along okay with her hip surgery. xoxo

    1. Thank you so much Donna. The buffalo check was just too pretty to pass by this year…and I agree! My bestie loves the red/white buffalo check, but I’m drawn to gray/white and black/white. The harvest gold was a crazy find and I swore as a kid that I would NEVER have that awful color in my house…yet….here we are…LOL HA, I remember those!! Tupperware…don’t hear that much anymore either! Thank you so much! She is doing better and recovering at home now. She will start rehab this week…that will be rough! Love and hugs!

  6. Oh yes mam, I do love this table decor! Love how the black made the neutral pop. I have been wanting some plaid plates...the red and black. But I am not paying the price I am seeing for them. LOL! Yep, I am too frugal I guess. Love me a pretty tablescape and yours is so pretty. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

    1. Thank you so much Cindy! I normally stay with the neutral plates but couldn't resist the black/white buffalo check. They were on sale or they would have stayed right with the store. :-) I'm frugal also and cannot stand to pay for something that I know has been marked up to a ridiculous price...years ago I used to work in the retail office of a large department store and that has made me suspicious of some of the prices. Thank you again so much! Love and hugs!

  10. I'm so weird that I like a subtle table for the holidays, but my house is like a Disneyland ride of color lol What's with that?! I think your table looks lovely :)

    love to you,

    1. Thank you so much Rue! LOL...you are too funny! I guess I use a lot of color on the table because the rest of my house lacks it and is so neutral. It's much easier for me to put color in a small space (like the table) than try to coordinate through the house. Love and hugs!

  12. That table was absolutely beautiful Benita! It could easily be showcased in a magazine. I really love the buffalo plaid plates. I used to have black buffalo plaid window treatments in our kitchen and would still love them if we hadn't moved.

    1. Thank you so much Julie, that is so sweet of you to say! I fell in love with them when I saw them! Buffalo check is such a pretty pattern and I’m glad that it now comes in different colors…but I would probably still opt for black/white…LOL. My friend back in Alabama has the black/white window treatments and she just loves them! Love and hugs sweet friend!
