Because Why Not Start There...

I've been away from the blog again....for a very good reason.  We have been trying to get things completed for our upcoming closing and for our move this weekend!  YAY!!

We are excited about the house and I am definitely looking forward to adding personal touches to this house.  I've already picked out new pendant lighting, chandeliers, rugs, wall colors, etc.  I know the hubster is super excited about all the work I've got lined up for him over the next year! :-)  It will take a while to make all the changes....it's a long list!!   But it is all part of moving into a new home...and all part of living in a home you've been in for a while.  We are women....we like decorating changes in our home as trends come and go and even if we are not trendy in our decorating choices, we just like to shake things up sometimes.

Over the next few posts I will be sharing "before" pics of the house.  Let's start with the kitchen...because....why not start there?

The photos I'm sharing are the realtor photos so the lighting isn't the best.

I love the cabinets.  We will be adding hardware and soft-close hinges to the kitchen and bathroom cabinets.  We had soft-close hinges at our house in Tennessee...what a difference they make!

For the pendant lights...they will eventually be replaced with one of these....

I haven't quite decided which one, but the fact that the light at World Market is out-of-stock indefinitely, may cause me to choose the Wayfair light.  I will show the chandy choices I like for the breakfast area another time!  I know I should show you now, but there has to be some mystery in our relationship, right?? ;-)

One more view of the kitchen before I scoot out...

....because right now, I'm running Henny Penny and Willy Nilly trying to get ready to move! :-)

  3. the "bumps" surely won't be as bad as the last closing house bumps. at least i hope not! that just might have done me on buying houses!

    1. Thank you so much! The kitchen was the selling point for me on this house. One would think that mortgage companies would have this down and make the process easy for the customer. I think they create complications to keep people from buying homes frequently….LOL Personally, I’m beginning to think that renting is the way to go…a lot less headache and would probably suit our lifestyle much better! :-) I was going to ask you to do the same thing! :-) Love and hugs to you sweet lady!

  4. Congratulations on your new home! I love the kitchen. Can I have your lights you're getting rid of, lol? Just kidding. We are in the midst of planning kitchen updates, along with a master bath redo. I may be missing as much or more than you from the blog in the coming weeks. Can't wait till it's all done. I know you probably can't either. Do you feel like a gypsy yet, given all your life changes in the past few years?! Be strong, and see ya on the flip side!

    1. Thank you so much! We are hoping to make it to closing...the builder wanted a fast close, so we will see. Remodels and moving require a lot of time and effort and don't leave too much time for keeping up a blog...great material, just no time to write and post! Yes, looking forward to it all being completed and YES, definitely feel like a gypsy! Good look with the reno work, can't wait to see it all finished!! Love and hugs!

  6. Oh, I'm so happy for you, Benita! And that kitchen is already a stunner. I can't wait to see it with your personal touches! And I think I'm going to have my hubby read your wise words on how we women like to shake things up with the home decor. Maybe it would give me some credibility, haha. Happy Moving!! Hugs!

  8. Wow, look at all that counter space! And a fireplace to enjoy while you're cooking, very nice!

Have you been in a countdown? "5 more nights to sleep here, 4 more nights to sleep here" And soon you'll be sleeping in your new house, congratulations!

    1. Thank you so much!! The kitchen is always a biggie for me and I really liked the layout. The fireplace is in an odd spot in the living area, but it works for me since it is so open to the kitchen...I will definitely like having a nice fire while I'm cooking...wait, that doesn't sound right does it??!! LOL I've been trying not to count down, but it's almost like Christmas...LOL Love and hugs to you sweet friend!

If this one falls apart, I’m ready to find a place to rent and be done with it! :-) May move up north to cooler temps…LOL Love and hugs to you…hope you are having fun and staying off that ankle!!

  11. I love it!!! It's the perfect size and I think light fixtures are a huge feature so an update will be great. Wow, can't get over how big!!

Good luck and have fun! :-D

  12. Benita,
The comment I wrote never made it into internet space. Here's try #2. Your new kitchen is beautiful. Is that a corner pantry? It looks huge! Where is your new house? Near me?

    1. Judith, I have those same problems as well…don’t know why some of the take and some don’t. Thank you so much. Yes ma’am, it is a corner pantry, but it isn’t very big. Bigger than what we had in TN though, so I’m good with it. We are still in the Midlothian area. Hope you are doing well! Love and hugs to you!!

  13. I'M SO EXCITED FOR YOU, BENITA!!!!! Sorry I'm shouting, but I know how hard it is finding a good home and that one looks gorgeous! Wow, what a kitchen - you are going to be able to whip up some crazy good meals in there! And I love the fireplace in the kitchen, how awesome is that??? :)

  16. I have a plaque in my kitchen that says "the only reason I have a kitchen is because it came with the house". So naturally I don't see anything familiar in these pictures except a big nod to yesteryear when there were big fireplaces in kitchens not stoves - I love it!

I decided your house warming gift is gonna be a big witches cauldron to brew a wicked potion and to place a "Time Stand Still" spell so you never have to move again!

"First close your eyes and imagine a clock and focus on that clocks ticking and then say the spell: Time stand still- I order you. No minutes pass until Im through doing what I have to do. Time stand still- I order you"

And they all lived happily ever after in their new home!
