Little Black Dress...

Well, here we are...at that time of year where schedules are hectic and parties are plentiful!  If you are like us, your calendar for the month of December is almost completely booked with places to go, people to see, scrumptious food to eat...but we won't talk about the food, right??!!  :-)

What I do want to talk about is this....the Little Black Dress!  Everyone should own a Little Black Dress.  It is like a staple for the pantry, but for your closet. :-)  Believe it or not, I've never owned a Little Black Dress, but now that I've lost weight it is time to get one!

Here are a few I've been looking at...believe me, they take the word "little" literally...

While the 20-year-old in me says "you can rock this", my 55-year-old body says "you can't wear none o' that"....nevertheless, it is too cute!

I like this one because it seems to be one of those "shapeless" dresses that fits your specific shape.

There is only one problem with this dress...the back is open.  Now, my back looks fine, but I don't think the dress would look too well with my bra straps showing.  One thing about being older...you NEVER leave home without a bra....ever!!  Well, unless you want to frighten small children and scar them for life!  While I know there are alternatives and cuppy things you can wear, I believe this dress is perfect for someone perkier than me!

I love the sleeves on this dress (if I could keep them out of a dip or sauce...I can see me dragging around cocktail dip on one of those sleeves all night)...

...and the length! I'm short, it would hit right at my knees.

After looking at 12 bazillion dresses, I determined that this one might be the best fit for me...

...it's longer, covers all body parts, has a small scoop in the back and my bra won't show!  It checks all of my boxes!!

I also found these perfect Little Black Dress shoes...

...but they are sold out...figures!

Soooooo, what's your style of Little Black Dress?

  1. The first thing I notice is that your dresses all have sleeves. That's something I'm always looking for and they are hard to find. I appreciate the ability to stay warm and look amazing at the same time! :)

    1. I like them all, but I have to consider my age since most of them look so much better on the younger generation. :-) Thank you so much, you are so sweet! Love and hugs!!

  4. Oh my gosh, Benita, I laughed out loud at the one with the sleeves and keeping them out of the dip, hahaha. I love LBDs, and have several! My recent favorite is Jones NY much like the first one you pictured here, only the sleeves are 3/4 and it has some ruching, very forgiving at the waist. It was SO comfortable! Like you, I'm short, so even a mini would hit me at the knees or longer. Believe it or not, I still have an LBD I wore in the '80s. It wasn't maternity, but I was able to wear it when I was preggo, and it's still a classic (minus the shoulder pads, of course, hehe). Love the shoes too, but I won't go higher than 2.5" or 3", max. I love all these dresses except the backless - never for me - my worst feature. Take a picture of yourself if you go out in one of these - I want to see how gorgeous I know you are!

    1. I’m such a klutz sometimes that I this is a normal thing to happen to me…LOL…dragging food around on my clothes!! Ohhhh, that sounds like a beautiful dress!! That is so awesome that you still have an 80s dress…those are coming back in style…and yes, minus the shoulder pads…LOL. I love the shoes also and am a glutton for punishment in heels. Doesn’t matter how many times I fall, I still go back for more…LOL And I have fallen quite a few times! :-) Photos? I am the worst at having my pic taken…LOL. I still haven’t been able to pick one up as we have been putting out fires with the new office. Time is running short on me because I need one for NYE!!! Awww, thank you so much, you are so sweet Rita! Hope you’ve had a great week! Love and hugs!!

  5. These are all beautiful, Benita and pat yourself on the back for being in good shape and getting to make the choices. I love them all!! And those shoes, I hope some designers notice the clear straps and hack them. I need a shorter heel only because I'm clumsy!

    1. I just love them all, but only one will work for me...I hate being so dang old sometimes...LOL. And yes, someone definitely needs to hack them due to the price...and for shorter heels. I'm clumsy too and just try to fall with some grace...LOL Love and hugs!!

  6. Love your chose Benita. It is smashing and you are going to be stunning in it. Love the shoes but I am way past that high of a heal at 58 years old lol! I would probably kill myself trying to walk in those lol! Very pretty though. Enjoy this fast pace time of year. Our weekends are full too.
    Hugs,

    1. Thank you…you are so sweet! I keep telling myself that I’m too old for these heels also, but then someone in my head says “go for it, you will at least look cute when you fall!” LOL Hope you are enjoying all the parties and events! Love and hugs!!

  7. You will look smashing in that dress, Benita! I love the "cocktail sauce dress", too, but I see your point about the sleeves, haha. Can't wait to see the shoes you end up with. This sold out pair is gorgeous! I'm so envious of you gals who can wear those...my husband is short, and I'm not comfortable towering over him 😔

    1. Awww, thank you so much! And the sauce thing has to happen to others besides me...or am I the freak of the freak show...LOL I love those sold out shoes and have not been able to find any that I like just as much...which figures! Everyone is taller than me because I'm so short....Oh wait, I'm taller than my granddaughter...LOL...but not by much! :-) Love and hugs girl!

  8. Well, if those ain't fu*k me shoes, I don't know what are! You go girl!

I love all those dresses, but especially the first one, and like someone said, having sleeves is a huge plus. It's hard to find stylish dresses with sleeves, especially cocktail dresses. What's up with that?!

I would so get the sleeves on that dress dirty too! Glad I'm not the only clutz in this group ;).

    1. Ba ha ha....that is EXACTLY what the hubster said!! I love them all too and wish that the first one was more "age appropriate" for me! Sleeves are a must for me! I hate my arms...LOL They are not available for us "mature" women cuz they are catering to the 20-somethings...LOL. I'm glad I have friends in the "klutz" arena...I was thinking I was all alone...LOL Love and hugs!!

  12. So many beautiful LBDs and I LOVE those heels! I couldn't stop laughing at dragging dip on your sleeves all night long, sounds like something I would do too!! You'll look drop dead gorgeous in any one of these! Thank you so much for visiting me and your beautiful comment yesterday. 1. Those heels are awesome! And I haven't found anything that I like as much...am going to keep looking! I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who has these issues with sleeves...it's just one of those things and then when I try to hold them up, I look ridiculous trying to balance a plate, grab some food and keep the sleeves from dragging...it's an event for sure...LOL

Awww, Christine, thank you so much and you are so welcome! I appreciate you as well and think the world of you! I have been scarce around the blogging world but am hoping to really get back into the swing after the first of the year, so I will be around a lot more! You are so sweet and precious and I'm so glad we have been able to "meet"! Love and hugs sweet friend!

  13. Love all those cute dresses but I would probably opt for the one you are....covers everything! I have never owned a little black dress but then I don't go anywhere to wear one. In my glamourous life someday I would the one with the flared sleeves or a sleeveless one with the round hole button opening in the back. Those shoes are gorgeous but I could not stand in those for one second!

    1. I love them all also but definitely need some coverage, especially on my arms. We really don't go anywhere either, but I'm making an effort to make the hubster take me to some nicer places (other than the local Mexican restaurant..LOL) I need an alternate life sometimes...but don't we all!?! I think you would look beautiful in that dress...I've seen photos of you and you can so rock it!! :-) Love and hugs!!

  14. The dress you chose is perfect for you! Too bad about the shoes...have you found another option? At least you won't be dealing with snow and ice when you leave the house. Although a couple of years ago Dallas had a big (for them) snowstorm. Alana, my daughter, said people were freaking out and skittering all over the roads. xoxo

    1. I love the dress and have got to hurry up and order it...I'm so behind on everything! No ma'am, not yet. I've been looking, but it is hard to find a substitute when you have your heart set on something else. :-) Since we've lived here, there has been snow several times...in 2009 there was a snow at Christmas (we were driving from Alabama in it) and in 2012 there was snow at Christmas. And you are right, no one here knows how to drive in the snow and ice, including me. I refuse to drive in it. :-) Love and hugs!!

  15. I love the last one! The shoes are very pretty...but I would have a broken leg, or ankle, or toe, or arm, or head if I wore them...well that, and I'd walk all bull-legged in them before I tripped myself up! ;)
That 'little black dress' is the perfect reward for doing all the hard work you've done!!
Sounds like you have a busy December...but it's a nice kind of busy when you get to spend it with family and friends!!
I hope you are having a wonderful week!! Big, big hugs!! Kimberley

    1. They are all so beautiful but I still haven't made a decision and haven't bought a single thing!! I'm dragging my feet on it for some reason! I love the shoes and haven't found anything I like as much...they are just different and too cute! And when I wear heels this high, there is normally a stumble or a fall. It's just the nature of the beast...LOL You kill me...that is hilarious...bull-legged!! It has been a crazy month and I have still have a couple of pounds left to go, maybe that's why I haven't committed to buying. :-) I hope you are planning on a wonderful holiday and that your month has been going well! Love and hugs to you sweet friend!!!

  17. My little black dress is actually a perfect pair of black slacks and simple, but perfect black top. The older you get, the less you want to show! But, that second dress would be the one the younger me would've died for.
