About Those Resolutions....

I didn't make any!  Not one single resolution for the New Year!

I have found that it is difficult to keep them...that after the first few weeks, they get kicked to the curb.  I don't mean for them to, it just happens....schedules get crowded, work gets hectic, life moves faster than I do and the resolutions fall away.

So, for 2016, I will be the best me I can be.

I will accomplish all that I can and not feel defeated when I can't.  I will continue to help others, be kind, be considerate, be strict, be OCD (maybe a little less) and try not to freak out about my hair when it's humid outside.  I will also be cranky (menopause) and have hot flashes.  I will improve my computer and photography skills, work on the blog when I can and not stress about it when I can't.  I will continue to pay bills on time and balance our bank account 3 times a day.

Wait?!  This is beginning to SOUND like resolutions...

Do you make resolutions?  Do you keep them?  Are you okay with yourself when you can't?

Be the best YOU that you can be!

    1. I stopped a few years ago because I beat myself up about them all the time. It served no purpose.

  4. I make them sometimes and am good about keeping them. This year I have a goal, not a resolution.

    1. I stopped a few years ago and felt they were fruitless. Goals and accomplishments are so much better and sound/feel more productive and positive!

  6. Never make them! I try to live one day at a time with simple goals for each and if I can get through and do that, I have accomplished much!

  7. No resolutions for this old gal. I guess the only thing I do along those lines is try to find at least one good thing a day.

    1. I stopped making them a few years ago. I always felt disappointed. Now, I strive to be better than the previous year, sometimes just the previous day. I set goals and have a to do list. I check off what I can and carry over to the next day when I need to. That’s what we learned in math, right? To carry over! ;-)

  8. No resolutions for me. I've just picked my word for the year as rejoice, and that's exactly what I intend to do this year.

  9. Gee, for someone who is not going to make resolutions, you're laying a pretty heavy load on your shoulders here, sweet lady. A few years ago I began making resolutions that would be fun to keep--buy a new lipstick and perfume, eat dark chocolate every day, not feel guilty about watching the Bachelor, have lunch out with my sister, etc.--and even those are hard to keep.

This year I put one goal in front of me--de-clutter in 2016. And here it is January 6 and I have not begun. I'm beginning to panic, my heart is racing, the year is speeding by. But there's always the dark chocolate resolution to work on.

Love you, Benita, and you already are kind and considerate!

    1. I like those types of resolutions Dewena...a new hair color or cut...eat a new type of candy, use black nail polish...oh wait, I already do that...LOL I think your past resolutions are really the past...to enjoy life as it comes and venture out a little bit! Decluttering is something I'm working on as well. I removed one old clothing item from the closet and am giving away some Christmas decorations. I haven't made it very far either, so don't feel bad. But I'm with you, the year is speeding away already!! Love you too Dewena....you are one special lady! Love and hugs!!

  10. I always have a running list of resolutions for each year and always roll over any unfulfilled resolutions to the next year. Unfortunately the same list continues to roll over each year!

    1. Oh Melissa, I so feel your pain with that one. I did that year and year and finally just gave up. Now, I take smaller steps, set goals and enjoy marking off the "to do" list! But I still secretly carry around my little list! :-)

  11. I don't make them but I think your idea of being the best you can when you can is a good plan! Happy 2016!

  12. Benita,
Like you I do not make any resolutions for the New Year. But I do something I will share... Every year I make 2 commitments, one to a country and one to a cause or charity. The country choice I buy from, learn about their customs and traditions, I cook their cuisine and sometimes we travel there. The cause or charity I donate to, I educate others about and I volunteer my time and efforts.

Resolutions nope, never but a commitment for me fits perfectly in my Virgo spirit. I feel good and I do good. Last year I picked America and Alzheimer's. I will in a few months when I am well underway trying to make a difference in little ways will post on it.
I enjoy your honesty and your humor Benita and I am glad I follow your posts.
    xoxo,

    1. Vera, I think this is such a wonderful idea….to learn and to give. I think those are two things we should all strive for every day. They most definitely make a difference in our lives and in the lives of others. Thank you for sharing that idea!

Ahhhh….Virgo. My birthday sits on the Virgo/Libra line, but my personality is much more Virgo than Libra. When I was younger, my birthday always fell under Virgo. Over the years, someone has moved it under the Libra sign. I have very few of those personality traits. I’m looking forward to your post about your experiences from last year! Thank you so much Vera, I appreciate it greatly and am glad that I follow yours also! Love and hugs!!

  13. I also set goals more than resolutions. I always try to reduce my sugar intake...unsuccessfully...darned Starbucks and their yummy lattes! And I agree, Benita, that we should just strive to be the best we can be and not beat ourselves up at times when we fall short!

    1. You are so brave....sugar intake never makes it onto any list...I know me all too well...LOL. I think if we strive to be better each year, or each day, then we have accomplished a great deal! Hugs sweet friend!

  14. I have never made one resolution...I just start out the year with a few things that I strive for...to be a bit kinder...to be a bit more thankful and to worry a bit less! And I think being the best me that I can be sounds pretty good! I love that!
And honestly Benita, I have met you...I can't imagine you being any better...you are already the best you!!
    Big Hugs!! Kimberley

    1. Kimberley, I discovered years ago that resolutions were filled with nothing but frustration for me. I’m so very OCD and “anal” that when I couldn’t get something done in the time parameters I placed upon myself, I would literally have a meltdown, freak-out moment and not be able to move to the next thing because I was so focused on the thing I didn’t get finished. I finally just gave them up and decided to not be so hard on myself (the unfinished bathroom is a great example…LOL) As the hubster often reminds me…I’m only human….LOL. Thank you so very much and that is so sweet of you to say, but I do have things I want to improve upon…that OCD problem being the main thing…LOL. Big hugs to you too sweet friend! And thank you so much!

"I do not make them. I think about things I would like to accomplish for the year...that's about as far as I get!"

So far I have accomplished a couple of tasks I set myself - onwards to the next!

Hope your year has started well

    1. Goals and accomplishments are much easier to deal with...much more so than that pesky list of resolutions! :-) I've accomplished one or two goals so far and will do what I can do and not worry about what I didn't get done! I hope your year is off to a great start also Jan....so far so good here! Hugs!!

  16. I usually just make goals/things I would like to accomplish. Sometimes I make my goals, sometimes I don't. Motto.....go with the flow...helps with the blood pressure. Hugs!!!

    1. Most definitely going with the flow helps with the blood pressure. One of my goals for the year is learning to let go…I think it will make my life (and blood pressure) function so much better! Hugs to you too sweet friend!!

  17. I do and don't make resolutions, funny lady (you always make us see the lighter side of things!). I think it's a great time to make plans but I'm very much like Dewena-we have to mix in some fun or we will simply toss them aside. Not having a lot of unrealistic ideas helps as well as a positive attitude.

    Love to you,

    1. Thank you so much Jane! For years, I took the resolution thing so seriously and never mixed it up with any fun things to do. The hubster tells me that I’m a “black/white” person….that I cannot mix serious things with pleasurable things…that I have to be doing one or the other, but can’t do both. So I will add to my list of goals for this year, the ability to mix “business and pleasure”….LOL. I’m wound pretty tight. He tells everyone that I’m a triple A personality. LOL. And yes, a positive attitude is the best thing to have in every situation…it makes a world of difference! And who knows…I may smear on some red lipstick one day to compliment my big, wide mouth full of teeth! :-) Love and hugs to you sweet Jane!!

    1. Thank you so much Debbie! Ahhh...sometimes yes, most times no. It seems that the days move faster and my list of things to accomplish grows longer. I do what I can, accept what I can't and roll the list over to the next day! The important thing is that I no longer beat myself up about the things I didn't get done! :-) Love and hugs to you sweet friend!

  19. Hello,
I am keeping this kind of simple. I downloaded an app to help me keep on track to drink all my water in a day. :-) Hope to keep up with it :-)))

In all honesty, I do know what you mean. I appreciate your honesty in this post. I will try my best to keep on with goals and hope to learn or try a few new things too in 2016.
